Job Summary:

The Packaging Manager, reporting to the Operations Manager, is a key member of the Plant Management Team responsible for setting departmental goals and ensuring compliance with company policies. This role oversees daily packaging operations, including scheduling personnel to meet customer demand and maintain line efficiency. The Packaging Manager manages labour relations in a unionized environment, enforces health and safety standards, resolves quality issues, and collaborates with other departments. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of supervisory experience in unionized manufacturing, preferably in aluminum extrusion or electrostatic paint line industries. Strong leadership skills and flexibility with shifts are essential

Required Education/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of Supervisory experience within unionized manufacturing settings.
  • College Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing experience; exposure to the aluminium extrusion industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of painting equipment and applications, preferably with electrostatic paint line experience.
  • Strong packaging knowledge and ability to operate industry-related equipment.
  • Ability to monitor production processes, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize workload in line with production demands.
  • Experience in daily scheduling to meet customer requirements and ensure line efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Solid conflict resolution skills with the ability to take initiative in resolving issues proactively.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with the capability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and schedule packaging personnel to meet customer demand and ensure line efficiency.
  • Analyze production processes and implement improvements to optimize departmental performance.
  • Manage labour relations, including handling grievances and resolving employee conflicts.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety standards and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Monitor packaging equipment performance and oversee maintenance for safe operation.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and management to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and develop staff, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and coaching.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Packaging and Sales departments to support operational alignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
