Sinai Health is looking for an Emergency Preparedness Specialist to join our team in the Risk Management department.
The Emergency Preparedness Specialist develops / maintains the organization’s integrated emergency preparedness to assist in improving safety and reducing risk while providing the framework for organizational response during an emergency.
The Specialist is responsible for maintaining the emergency procedures/response programs across Sinai Health - Mount Sinai and Bridgepoint campuses by supervising the procedures, activities, performance, debriefings and orientation of all Sinai Health staff and stakeholders who respond to Emergency Codes across the organization. This role will involve liaising with peer/Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) Hospitals through Emergency Management committees, tools and networking at both a community and local level.

In This Role You Will
- Maintain, develop, revise, and review all emergency procedures/responses across Sinai Health - Mount Sinai and Bridgepoint Campuses
- Facilitate the review/monitor code events through the Safety Assurance Factors for EHR Resilience (SAFER) reporting and incident management
- Coordinate with appropriate stakeholders, department/units; responding to questions and concerns from front line staff
- Assist the Chairing member(s) of the Sinai Health Emergency Preparedness Committees that meet on regular basis
- Develop, revise and maintain corporate site specific policies/procedures
- Manage/maintain, all online content; policies, documentation, and resources pertaining to Emergency Preparedness stored on the Sinai Health network portals
- Work collaboratively with Security to coordinate case management of investigations
- Engage key stakeholders in the development of emergency procedures that are safe, timely, and effective
- Lead/facilitate debriefing following each significant emergency incident that has the potential to or has caused harm to a patient/staff/visitor and /or caused damage to key system infrastructures that may threaten or affect business continuity
- Provide orientation and ongoing support to senior leadership / admin on-call / clinical on-call staff pertaining to emergency event response, Incident Management Systems, and Command Center Operations
- Respond to emergency codes during and after hours as appropriate
- Formulate short and long term emergency preparedness work plan in consultation with Senior Leadership
- Participate in continual collaboration, consultation and research with internal and external partners
- Complete other duties related to the position as assigned
Mandatory
- Successful completion of a university degree or college diploma in a related field from an accredited educational institution
- 3-5 years recent and relevant experience in health care setting including Incident/Emergency Management, emergency preparedness programs, formation of complex problem solving strategies and work plans, etc.
- Emergency Management Certificate or equivalent
- Master's degree in a related field from an accredited educational institution
- Certification within the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS)
- Strong data analysis skills with the ability to read, interpret and report on Emergency Codes and related findings
- Proficient with MS Office: advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Proven interpersonal and relationship building skills; professional, diplomatic and confident with a proven ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization and external stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to clearly define and articulate requirements, priorities, impacts, and solutions
- Ability to work independently
- Must be dependable and flexible in order to respond to the dynamic needs of the business in a fast-paced, multitasking and dynamic environment
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and changing priorities while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and customer service
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
