Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is responsible for coordinating all Finance and Accounting daily operations, ensuring compliance with company policies, applicable standards, and legislation. This includes financial reporting, banking, reconciliations, AP/AR processes, and assist with overseeing all aspects of the Club’s financial operations. The role will also involve supporting budgeting and forecasting, developing financial analysis, and leading process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination of Finance & Accounting Operations: Contribute to the oversight of daily operations of the Finance and Accounting department, including financial reporting, banking, reconciliations, provide backup when needed for AP/AR processes, ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Supervision of Payments to External and Internal Parties: Preparation and review of weekly accounts payable (AP) payments, including purchase order confirmation, valid contracts, and accuracy.
- Revenue Stream Reconciliation: Reconcile and track all revenue streams, including ticketing, soccer development, licensed merchandise, and sponsor partnerships, ensuring the accurate reflection of all financial transactions.
- Budgeting & Forecasting Support: Assist as needed in the development of the annual budget and provide ongoing support with forecast updates. Identify variances and work with the Manager, Finance and CFO to implement corrective actions as needed.
- Period-End Financial Statements & Reporting: Collaborate with the Manager, Finance to prepare period-end financial statements and ad-hoc reporting packages, ensuring accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Data Analytics & Process Improvement: Utilize data analytics to monitor financial performance, streamline processes, and identify cost efficiencies. Develop and implement financial benchmarks to assess the effectiveness of services and operations.
- Financial Decision Support & Analysis: Provide support for financial decision-making through requested financial reports, and business analysis.
- Process Standardization & Automation: Lead efforts to standardize and automate financial processes, improving the accuracy, efficiency, and ease of reporting functions across the department.
- Currency Account Reconciliation: Oversee the reconciliation of both Canadian and U.S. Dollar bank accounts, ensuring accurate reporting and currency management.
- Sponsorship Accounting & Value-in-Kind Settlements: Manage the accounting and settlement of sponsorship contracts, ensuring proper recognition of sponsorship revenues in financial records.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliation & Audit Preparation: Reconcile balance sheet accounts and assist in preparing documentation for external audits and reviews, ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Regulatory Compliance & Tax Filings: Ensure the timely preparation and submission of regulatory filings, including GST, PST, and withholding tax remittances.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as required to support the Finance department and ensure the effective management of financial operations.
Requirements
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- 2-3 years experience in full cycle accounting
- Degree or Diploma in accounting; education towards a CPA designation is beneficial
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
- Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
- Self-motivated with a proven ability to engage with a range of internal and external partners to achieve objectives
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and maintain a positive and proactive attitude in fast-paced environments.
