The Assistant Controller role provides a unique and exciting opportunity to be a part of our accounting team’s growth. This position will offer you the chance to be a key player in the building of our new accounting team at our corporate office in Calgary.


Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing both the AR and AP departments as well as the General Accountant. This includes any related day-to-day accounting and month-end closing requirements. The Assistant Controller is a key accounting resource supporting both operations, administration, and corporate activities. RME is looking for a passionate and committed self-starting individual who will ensure deadlines are met, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and promote continuous improvement.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Controller with management and support of ongoing accounting group activities.
  • Analyzing and managing various P&L and Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Participation in the accurate and timely closing of accounting periods.
  • Collaboration with the Controller and other departments to support operational efficiency, address financial concerns, and provide expertise on financial operations.
  • Contributing to the development, improvement, and design of policies and procedures, focusing on efficiencies and automations.
  • Managing daily activities, development, and performance of relevant direct reports as applicable, including performance reviews and establishing of goals.
  • Investigating and resolving financial results queries for internal customers.
  • Coordination and support of audit requirements both internal and external.
  • Supporting the Treasury function with review and approval authority on routine payments and banking activities.
  • Travelling for business purposes such as meetings and training
  • Performing other duties as required to support the accounting department.


Requirements:  

  • 3+ years of general accounting experience or related.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related discipline.
  • Designated Accountant or nearing completion of an accounting designation.     
  • Experience in a leadership, supervisory, or coaching role.     
  • Working knowledge of general accounting principles and standards.
  • Proficient decision-making abilities within established policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Power Automate is considered an asset.
