System Operator ‘A’

Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. (GSHI) is a trusted electrical distribution company delivering safe and reliable electricity to the City of Greater Sudbury and West Nipissing. The GSU group of companies provides leadership in energy distribution, alternative generation, water heater rental products, and leading-edge telecommunications technologies and services.

Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. requires an Electrical System Operator. The System Operator will monitor SCADA systems and respond to distribution system events by analyzing data and directing field crews to ensure safety of personnel, safeguard distribution system equipment, minimize the duration of system disturbances, and maximize system integrity.

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:

  • Requires a Diploma from a Community College in Electrical Power Systems or equivalent experience or formal technical education.
  • Successful completion of a recognized “Operator’s” training course including the required apprenticeship hours and be in possession of a recognized Operator’s certificate.
  • The proficiency and technical ability to use applicable computer applications and software including SCADA and GIS.
  • Possession of a Class “G” driver’s license or one of a higher classification.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Ability to work calmly and competently under the stress of power outages.

The successful applicant will be required to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.
