JOB SUMMARY
The Buyer is responsible for keeping inventories throughout the supply chain as low as is consistent with company needs, and acquiring costs at the minimum as is compatible with optimal performance. The primary responsibility is to coordinate and execute the planning, procurement, and distribution of National brand and Medline branded finished good materials.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inventory Management: Responsible for accurate and timely placement and monitoring of purchase orders for designated finished goods materials within assigned book. Maintain optimal inventory levels across all branches.
- Analyzes purchase requirements based on sales in consideration of inventory targets, service considerations, demand, and sourcing options prior to generation of purchase orders (PO).
- Prepares complete and accurate purchase orders.
- Obtains quotations on items to be purchased.
- Manages the PO release process through vendor minimum and alternative means to satisfy the demands.
- Reviews forward coverage on stocked items on a regular basis and expedite as needed to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Reviews and maintains MRP segment of product master file and all purchasing related master data within assigned book of business to support effective purchasing and stocking strategy.
- Identifies and communicates to all stakeholders potential supply issues and constraints. Performs detailed sales analysis as needed to support inventory allocation when needed. Presents proposals, monitors execution and co-ordinates with Sales office, Customer Service and Sales force.
- Evaluates suppliers initially and then periodically against specific criteria.
- Evaluates potential sourcing or logistics options to optimize supply chain costs within the constraints of inventory and service levels.
- Interface with Supplier Organizations, Product Divisions and Corporate Inventory Management in regards to supply levels, product and vendor issues.
- Evaluation of new business requests and execution of all supporting system data necessary to support and integrate.
- Periodic review and analysis of forecast variances. Presentation and communication with sales to obtain updated sales forecasts. Process forecast updates as needed.
- Review month-end reporting to ensure MIOH, Service, Surplus and Stock Transfer expenses are in line with their current Medline goals, objectives and targets.
- Ensures daily, weekly and monthly and quarterly tasks are performed in accordance with company goals.
- Works with Inbound Logistics and Warehouse personnel as needed to appropriately prioritize or expedite inventory receipts.
- Responds to all planning and supply related inquiries in a timely manner.
- Manages relationship with high impact suppliers
- High level understanding of the product portfolio within the designated book of business
- Requests corrective actions from suppliers as required, and helps develop their quality system.
- Responsible for returns of outdated, excess or defective stock.
- Updates ERP with price changes as they occur.
- Negotiate optimal pricing from vendors in the event of large orders, returns, etc.
- Completes work within expected periods of time
- Communicates well with colleagues
- Has minimum absenteeism and is punctual
- Maintains good workplace housekeeping
- Completes other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- University or College diploma and minimum three years manufacturing, distribution, or purchasing experience in a large-scale business; or equivalent combination of education and experience; previous experience in import logistics, inventory planning, and transportation preferred
- CPIM, CPP certification or be working towards certification.
- Must have minimum intermediate MS Excel skill.
- Experience with SAP or comparable ERP system and MS Access is preferred.
- Fluent with concepts, processes and terminology of MRP, Purchasing, Demand Management, Product Management, Vendor Relations Management, Forecasting and Inventory Management.
- Excellent skills in oral and written communications and presentations.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively to external stakeholders including non-native English speakers, senior executive management, and all other levels of personnel throughout the organization.
