Mechanical Field Engineer

WestCorp Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Field Engineer to support the final stages of a large-scale construction project for our client, located near Regina, SK. This short-term contract role is ideal for a senior engineer with proven site experience in mechanical systems, QA/QC processes, and field coordination within major capital projects. The contract is estimated to be 8-12 weeks in duration, and the shift vary based on operational requirements.
The successful candidate will serve as the on-site technical authority for mechanical systems, ensuring project execution aligns with design intent, construction specifications, and safety compliance. You will collaborate with contractors and stakeholders, resolve field-level engineering issues, and contribute to a safe and successful project closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site technical liaison for mechanical construction activities.
- Review mechanical installation progress, resolve field design and quality issues, and ensure adherence to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Participate in walkdowns, inspections, and surveillance audits to verify alignment with design intent.
- Support QA/QC efforts, including review of ITPs, NCRs, and turnover documentation.
- Review and respond to Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Notices (FCNs), and other site documentation.
- Monitor contractor work progress, identify risks or deviations, and propose corrective actions.
- Facilitate mechanical system commissioning and turnover processes in collaboration with QA and construction leads.
- Coordinate with home office engineering teams to resolve design gaps or field modifications.
- Generate reports and field sketches as needed and contribute to risk and safety reviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a combination of engineering technologist and trades experience in a construction field setting.
- 5+ years of mechanical field engineering experience in heavy industrial, mining, or large-scale construction environments.
- Demonstrated experience with QA/QC procedures, inspection records, and field documentation.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment installation, piping systems, and structural interface.
- Familiarity with Canadian engineering standards (e.g., CSA, ABSA).
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interface with clients, contractors, and project teams effectively.
- P.Eng designation is preferred (or EIT with significant field experience).
- Field or trade background as a millwright or pipefitter is beneficial, but not required.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced field environments under tight deadlines.
