What we need you to bring.
Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Senior Engineering Lead – Energy & Power Systems. Your role involves both technical management, and a hands-on approach to the entire lifecycle of aerospace product design. You will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer of Horizon. Depending on experience the role may include people leadership.
The scope of the role includes the design and build of novel high voltage power systems, wiring interconnect systems, power electronics, and energy storage devices (such as batteries) in both a prototype and certification environments. You will lead the technical activities to develop products, expertise, tools, and methods in these areas.
There is significant scope for you to branch out into the wider topic of high voltage power electronics and propulsion systems, including the software development and integration with power electronics.

The team is currently full of multi-skilled individuals who are some of the first Engineers to have joined Horizon. You will be one of the first Lead Engineers to join us, which provides significant latitude in developing our working methods alongside needs of developing the platform.

Location.
We are located just outside of Lindsay, in the Kawartha Lakes area of Ontario, Canada. Our team is onsite at our facility, as a group, a minimum of two days per week. We expect the same from you, and we are mindful of what a realistic commute would be to keep you safe and at your best. We offer relocation allowances in appropriate cases.
We have a growing team in the Ottawa area, who are onsite in Lindsay less often. If you are in the region, please do apply and we can discuss options with you.

Your Day- To-Day
- Act as a leader and role model with the engineering team to participate in the definition of the mission, vision, and goals for the department. Plan and lead in the execution of those goals
- Lead and develop the disciplines listed above, including hands on work with the product
- Participate in design discussions to help shape overall system architecture
- Drive technological strategy towards creating the entire electrical system on board the Aircraft Covering: Power Generation, Electrical Distribution and Electrical Interconnection Systems
- Create a next generation electrical system
- Partnerships: Identify and establish strategic partnerships with external organizations, research institutions, and industry experts to leverage expertise, enhance knowledge sharing, and support collaborative research and development efforts
- Be an integral part of the team, projecting positive behaviours and influence onto the team
- Possess an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specifications appropriate to the discipline
- Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to improve engineering quality, productivity and timeliness of delivery
- Enforce standards, ensure rigor, resilience and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and requirements within schedule and budget
- Act as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teams
- Drive the continuous improvement of our processes to increase safety and efficiency.
