The role

Reporting to the Director, Community Relations (Ontario), the Advisor, Community relations (Ottawa) is responsible for supporting the day-to-day deployment of the stakeholder and consultation plans as well as any other engagement activities to support the Project's development.

As part of their activities, they will support the division’s efforts in maintaining close relations with local stakeholders, including interest groups and individuals interested in or potentially affected by the Project.

They will provide strategic advice in relation to the various issues and opportunities associated with the Project and support the implementation of stakeholder and consultation activities. They may be called upon to support expert working tables on behalf of the Project or represent the Project at local events occasionally.

They are responsible for documenting any identified issues, notably within the Borealis database, following up with the internal teams concerned, and supporting the feedback session with stakeholders who have raised it or may be interested in these issues.

The Responsibilities

  • Advise management on various issues and opportunities related to the Project.
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with regional stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison with concerned citizen groups.
  • Support the Project team at various regional events.
  • Liaise with the Media Relations and Internal Communications team in the development and revision of communication tools required for consultations.
  • Liaise with external consultants for the logistical organization and deployment of consultation activities.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation of consultation approaches and efforts.

The Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, administration, environment or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and community relations or in related fields of expertise.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders, external practitioners, and rightsholders and create networks to facilitate information flow.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to engage diverse partners and experience in briefing senior executives.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Ability to remain calm in the face of intense or potentially hostile situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of the functioning of municipal political and administrative structures in Ontario.
  • Strong sense of ethics.
  • Bilingualism (French and English), spoken and written (an asset).
  • Proficiency in technological and office electronic tools (in particular, the Microsoft suite).
  • Knowledge of the public transit and rail transportation sectors and their specific issues (an asset).
  • Knowledge of linear projects or infrastructures (an asset).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Requires frequent travel.
