The role of the Team Lead, Credit is to lead and oversee a team of Credit Solutions Associates and Senior Credit Solutions Associates. Key responsibilities include end-to-end credit management for Growth Commercial Banking clients within their respective region.
Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the credit underwriting process, ensuring timely and accurate credit assessments, and supporting the Sales team in achieving their targets. This role requires strong coaching and leadership skills, a deep understanding of credit risk and controls, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders; ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed/delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Leads and drives a client-driven culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. Lead a team of Credit Solutions Associates (CSA) and Senior Credit Solutions Associates (SCSA) providing midmarket credit solution activities for all Growth Commercial deals in the assigned market(s). Maintaining knowledge of lending solutions, credit products and policies and guiding team to proactively identify opportunities to apply these solutions. Has 8 to12 Direct Reports. Credit Authorization levels: <$5MM to $25MM; deals size: range from <$5MM to $15MM. Credits require low to mid complexity credit structures. Coaching a team around borrowing strategies; and enhancing teams overall underwriting capabilities, financial analysis, risk assessment, credit structuring and credit productivity in order for them to identify opportunities. Managing the team’s timely analysis, negotiation, structure, and presentation of lending solutions proposals. Reviewing the quality of lending solutions and writings prepared by the Client Solutions Associate to the Client Relationship Managers to ensure they clearly convey the rationale for decisions, so that they may respond effectively to clients. Reviewing lending proposals that are properly analyzed, structured, negotiated, priced and presented with sound recommendations. Providing guidance on recommendation of loan pricing and fees, yielding a return commensurate with risk, and regard to complexity and uniqueness of the solution, overall value added to client, profit, administration, and competitive considerations. Providing guidance, coaching and counsel to CSAs/SCSAs to enhance their credit analysis skills, to better serve client needs. Working closely with the Sales team to understand their needs and provide credit solutions that support sales objectives. Ensuring consistent use of nCino application within their team, while providing feedback for improvement based on application within the field. Build a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning.

- Three to five years equivalent work experience in Financial Services (Commercial/Small Business) or related industry.
- Strong coaching and leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge of business credit as it applies to Commercial Banking’s policies and procedures, business accounts, products and services, and collateral documentation.
- Working knowledge of the Bank’s compliance requirements for Commercial Banking.
- Strong risk assessment and credit skills and ability to structure deals.
- Knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies, practices, and procedures, as well as an awareness of business trends economic, technological, social, legal and political conditions and factors which could affect the viability of a credit.
- Strong knowledge of Canada’s financial services marketplace and of the assigned market area’s key industries, major customers and competitive positioning within the assigned market areas.
- Strong decision making, problem solving, and relationship management skills.
- Effective communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Strong sales and credit management, coaching, relationship building, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to influence and motivate others.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Commercial Banking products and services, including systems, routines and operating procedures.
- Strong knowledge of products and services provided by the Bank’s specialized sales forces and other delivery channels such as Global Banking & Markets, Global Business Payments, Global Wealth Management, Retail & Business Banking, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of Bank’s business lending and deposit products and services.
- Thorough knowledge of competitor offerings and alternative sources of financing.
