NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist – Sustainability to join our team. You will responsible for ensuring environmental compliance and drive sustainability initiatives within NextStar Energy. This essential role requires a high-energy approach, with a strong sense of accountability for maintaining our high environmental standards and stewardship. The Environmental Specialist – Sustainability will also play a pivotal role in creating, supporting and maintaining standardized environmental processes.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and lead Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. Support external reporting requirements and initiatives.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant's environmental management system, ISO14001 requirements.
- Assist with ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including wastewater, air (EASR permit compliance), chemical, and waste management.
- Assist with waste management processes, chemical management, scrap management, and contractor management
- Utilize problem-solving methodologies to initiate projects that enhance environmental compliance and performance. Implement programs to improve environmental performance, engaging Team Leaders and involving them in the process.
- Assist with managing environmental reports, permit applications, inventories, and surveys. This includes data acquisition, documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, reviews, and approvals.
- Lead environmental projects to improve key performance metrics and achieve environmental goals.
- Analyze environmental incidents, internal and external environmental audit findings, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Support the development and implementation of environmental procedures, making them visually accessible. Communicate requirements and deliver training to employees.
- Promote energy management initiatives to both the salary and hourly workforce, conducting energy audits and posting relevant data.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Engineering, Science or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of Environmental, Engineering, or related experience.
- Strong understanding of Sustainability and CSR principals, reporting requirements and program(s) implementation.
- Strong data management and interpretation skills.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and requirements.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with both internal and external parties and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Automotive, chemical, or manufacturing experience.
- ISO14001 experience
