As a director in Strategic Risk & Portfolio Management within the Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) team at National Bank, you will be a key player in identifying, assessing and managing forward-looking risks that may impact CIB’s strategic objectives, business model and market position. In your role, you will help support the business by working to prepare the team for the unexpected and proactively improving our processes, controls and analytical capabilities. You will work closely with the credit capital markets, investment banking, debt and equity capital markets teams as well as risk management teams, acting as a partner to grow the business in a healthy, risk-prudent and sustainable way.

You will be joining a newly created and expanding team, reporting to the Managing Director & Head, Strategic Risk & Portfolio Management, Corporate & Investment Banking. This role is distinct in its focus on enterprise-level strategic risks, rather than credit adjudication, and emphasizes comprehensive, forward-looking risk assessments and strategic thinking.

Your Job:
- Assist in strategic planning for CIB growth initiatives, including assessing infrastructure, controls, and required capabilities to bring an initiative to fruition as well as quantifying any residual risks
- Coordinate the development of enhanced governance processes in alignment with the Bank’s policies, including but not limited to crafting standards, underwriting guidelines, and whitepapers
- Be an advocate for a strong risk culture within CIB, ensuring compliance with the Bank’s risk appetite framework and acting as an in-house advisor on risk issues and projects and initiatives
- Identify and monitor emerging risks, including researching and reporting on potential impacts and opportunities for our Business, including but not limited to market shifts, geopolitical dynamics, regulatory changes and competitive disruption
- Enhance internal controls by implementing and overseeing robust risk management practices, such as industry dashboards to monitor performance with KRIs and external leading indicators as well as self-serve risk analytics
- Work with industry experts to develop dashboards to monitor portfolio performance, including tracking KRIs and external leading indicators

Prerequisites:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (finance, actuarial science, engineering, economics) and 5+ years of relevant experience in Financial Markets and/or Risk Management
- Aptitude for identifying current and potential issues and implementing effective solutions with a high level of autonomy
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, autonomy, judgment, make connections and challenge the status quo
- Excellent communication and writing skills with an ability to present ideas in a concise and well-structured manner
- Proven track record in strategic planning, risk identification and scenario analysis
- Ability to identify and foster talent by providing meaningful coaching, feedback and development opportunities and encouraging a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Excellent skills in analysis and organization, able to use complex and/or incomplete data to make informed decisions and recommendations
