Description
The Transportation Analyst is responsible for the supporting the freight transportation services in Canada. Freight transportation services may include flatbed truckload, dry van, truckload, rail carrier, rail car leasing, barge, vessel, unit train, bulk, intermodal and/or export container. This Analyst supports and participates in RFP’s, manages carrier performance, identifies competitive carrier and mode substitution options and works with CGC and USG’s Transportation and Logistics departments, Customer Service and Plants to identify continuous improvement and cost savings opportunities. The Analyst negotiates pricing and contracts, and coordinates with Sales, Customer Service, Plants and/or Logistics to support shipping needs and Customer Satisfaction. The Analyst addresses and escalates carrier and supplier performance issues to their respective Manager. The Analyst is the first point of contact for any cross-border inquiries relating to customs and is liaison with 3rd party service providers to ensure efficiency and compliance of cross border shipments. This position works as part of a team and reports to the CGC Manager, Transportation Operations. Total expenditure managed is approximately $100 million annually. Occasional travel (5%) is required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides Subject Matter Knowledge & Operational Knowledge within assigned region for truckload freight and services, and across mode or service offering nationally.
• Supports established policies and procedures for the consistent execution of freight services. Freight services can include:
o Flatbed & Dry Van
o Rail Carrier & Railcar Leasing
o Barge, Bulk, & Transload
o Intermodal & Export Container
• Identifies opportunities and supports Continuous Improvement projects to achieve savings and efficiencies.
• Participates in CGC’s strategic initiatives involving freight services and represents
CGC in industry trade groups as required.
• For all assigned facilities, supports freight requirements, including capacity and equipment needs, service areas and service requirements.
• Assist in negotiation and recommends rate structures, including any additional (accessorial) charges needed to support freight demand, as indicated above.
• Support freight solutions to minimize capacity risk and viability concerns, while maximizing capacity flexibility, service, and optimizing cost.
• Execute established policies to ensure a consistent approach to each of the freight services identified, support a strategic presence for each service, and ensure that freight services are consistently leveraged to result in optimal service and cost network-wide.
• Execute established policies and procedures to ensure carrier service levels meet or exceed CGC’s On-Time Delivery goals.
• Support operations of 3rd party providers to meet operational requirements.
• Willingness to enroll in and complete identified courses to further knowledge in specific fields.

• This position can work remotely in Canada.
Education
• B.A. or B.S degree (Business; Supply Chain; or related field) preferred.
