Reporting to the Team Lead, Enterprise Data Architecture and Engineering, the Sr. Enterprise Data Engineer (“Data Engineer”) supports both the on-premises and cloud analytic environments within Bayshore. This currently includes an on-premises SQL Server Enterprise environment (Data Lake, Data Warehouse, Data Marts and Cubes), as well as a new Enterprise Analytic Data Fabric in Azure. In this capacity, you will be primarily responsible for designing, developing and maintaining the structures to support Data Analytics within Bayshore, including but not limited to; OLAP databases, data modeling, and data transformations, pipelines, notebooks, stored procedures. In depth knowledge of Azure and other could platforms and related resources. You will possess a combination of business knowledge, technical skills, and people skills to effectively support the end-to-end data analytic strategy.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable and resilient Data & Analytics solutions in both SQL Server Enterprise (on-premises) and Microsoft Azure (cloud).
  • Design and model data warehouse and data marts using various data model techniques.
  • Design and build technical solutions, both on-premises and in the cloud, to ingest, process, store and provision data for analytics.
  • Design OLTP and dimensional data models, and maintain consistency between data models and databases.
  • Design and document source to target transformation rules and data mapping, in SSIS and in Azure Data Factory.
  • Develop batch processing solutions using Azure Data Factory pipelines, Triggers and Integration Runtime.
  • Develop source and target reconciliation report to validate data transformations.
  • Design database objects, i.e., index, trigger, stored procedures, and develop database change scripts.
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries and depth knowledge of performance tuning of slow running queries.
  • Work on automation and optimization of internal processes in Azure.
  • Participate in the review of maintenance release artefacts - Use Case, System Requirement Specification, etc.
  • Investigate and resolve issues in both the on-premises, and cloud, analytic environments.
  • Deliver detailed system design documents and any other supporting documentation conforming to standards.
  • Provide effective knowledge transfer when required.

Reporting Relationships

  • The Sr. Enterprise Data Engineer reports directly to Team Lead, Enterprise Data Architecture and Engineering.

Work Location : Bayshore Healthcare, National Office, Mississauga ON

Hybrid – At least 2 days onsite weekly

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent) or relevant work experience

Experiences

  • 5 + years of information technology experience, working on Data Warehouse/Data Lake Architectures, both on-premises, and in the cloud.
  • 5+ years of experience/expertise in database/SQL skills with MS SQL Server (2008, 2012, 2016 and newer).
  • 5+ years of experience/expertise developing data models and data transformations, in cloud-based data architectures (preferably Azure).
  • 5 + yrs of experience in Cloud technologies (Azure Synapse, MS Fabric, Databricks).
  • Extensive experience in multidimensional data modeling, logical and physical, such as star schemas, snowflakes, normalized and de-normalized models, handling “slow-changing” dimensions/attributes.
  • Expertise in both on-premises and cloud data transformation tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory).
  • Experience in design, development, and deployment of cloud analytic solutions (Azure Synapse, MS Fabric).
  • Create data pipeline involving diverse systems such Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL DW, ADLS Gen2, Azure Databricks, On premise compute.
  • Implement secure integration with data sources using Azure Key Vault, Managed Identity, Private Links etc.
  • Data Migration and Data Integration using SQL, SQL Azure, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Powershell.
  • Expertise working on large volume of data & performance tuning
  • Experience with Azure Load/Storage options (blob, Azure Data Lake, Cosmos)
  • Expertise in SQL databases (e.g., MySQL or Oracle) and strong ability to write SQL queries.
  • Extensive expertise in databases including relational SQL databases and SQL.
  • Experience with Polybase / Big Data Concepts.
  • Experience with business intelligence visualization tools (Azure Synapse Studio, MS PowerBI).
  • Familiarity with Data Science techniques and use of data such as data mining, embedded analytics, etc., would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a healthcare data environment would be an asset.
