Geophysical Analyst/Geophysicist
Ideon Technologies

Based in western Canada, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The Ideon REVEAL Platform is a subsurface intelligence solution that comprises proprietary hardware ruggedized for the most remote exploration sites and demanding of noisy in-mine environments, software, integrated imaging systems, and advanced data analysis and interpretation. Using sub-atomic particles called muons to image deep beneath the Earth's surface, Ideon creates high-resolution multi-dimensional models that help geologists identify, map, and characterize mineral deposits and other geological features such as caves and voids. Our work reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

You will work on cross-functional projects that yield geophysical insights from multiple data sets coupled with advanced analytics and software to deliver subsurface insights to our customers in the mining sector.
This role will also support the business development team by contributing geoscience expertise to customer engagements, proposals, and projects across multiple use cases.
You will make an impact and drive objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:
- Owning the technical quality and proficiency for data processing and analysis for customer projects assigned to you
- Leading advanced geophysical data analysis and inversions for sensing systems; creating multi dataset constrained inversions
- Interpreting complex datasets to extract meaningful subsurface insights
- Performing geophysical survey design, data quality assessment, and processing
- Developing, running and/or validating survey simulations as needed during project development
- Processing and analyzing newly acquired data using Python in Jupyter Notebooks and Geoscience ANALYST, or other in-house and commercial software
- Producing high-quality models, visualizations, and presentations for internal and customer use
- Distilling and presenting results effectively both internally and with customers; typically, updated results are shared with customers on a monthly basis
- Occasionally engaging in project-driven research and development
- In partnership with business development team members, interacting with prospective customers to ensure understanding of their unique problems and to help qualify opportunities
- Assessing technology application feasibility on known use cases and as-yet-unstudied use cases and geological features; proposing technically feasible solutions that create value for our customers while upholding the integrity of the science behind our products
- Developing, refining and/or applying standard operating procedures
- Understanding and committing to good software and project documentation practices
Priorities in the first few months will include:
- Making rapid progress coming up-to-speed with Ideon-specific knowledge and processes (month 1)
- Learning about Ideon’s customers and our “white glove” service level expectations (month 1)
- Leading data analysis and modeling for at least one active customer project, with projects increasing as you get up-to-speed (month 1+)
- Building working relationships across the business, in particular with individuals on the geosciences and business development teams (month 1+)
- Full understanding and application of our A-to-Z process (month 3+)
Success in the role looks like:
- Successfully and proactively managing fast-paced analysis of data within required deadlines
- Delivering high-impact geophysical interpretations that enhance the resolution, accuracy, and value of Ideon’s solutions
- Deepening Ideon’s value to customers with clear, defensible, and well-communicated geophysical results
Qualifications

- Experience running inversions, forward modeling, and simulations with multiple data sets
- Understanding of geophysical methods (i.e. gravity, direct current resistivity) and the subtleties of how geophysical inversions work
- Understanding of geology and the theoretical and practical aspects of mineral exploration, resource characterization, and subsurface intelligence
- Advanced-intermediate-level coding capabilities in Python and open-source packages (i.e. PANDAS, NumPy, SciPy); experience using Python to build scripts from scratch, analyze, interpret, and plot data **It would be helpful to include a link to your Github account in your application
- Proficiency using geophysical analysis software to fully process and independently analyze a range of survey data (i.e. Geoscience ANALYST, ArcGIS, QGIS, GoCAD, Oasis Montaj, Paraview, SimPEG)
