Reporting to the Foreman - Electric Distribution Operations, Powerline Technicians performs construction, operation and maintenance on the electric distribution systems. This full-time role involves close collaboration with internal Utility Distribution System personnel and various city departments. The position emphasizes efficient operations, strong teamwork, and the maintenance of positive relationships with the public and key stakeholder groups.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs components of street lighting and electrical distribution systems, including work on both energized and de-energized circuits.
  • Performs switching operations and assists with circuit switching and load transfers as directed by supervisory staff
  • Provides guidance and training to apprentices, utility helpers, and casual laborers.
  • Collaborates with the Foreman to schedule daily work efficiently and safely. Communicates system changes and updates design documentation.
  • Maintains accurate records, updates as-built drawings, and works cooperatively in a team environment

What You Bring

  • In-depth technical knowledge of tools, materials and methods used in powerline work.
  • Demonstrated ability to locate, diagnose and repair faults and defects on the distribution and transmission systems.
  • Committed to working safely and promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, with the ability to interpret work orders, procedures, and technical drawings
  • Physically fit to perform demanding tasks in various environments.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Journeyman Power Line Technician Red Seal Trade Certificate.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Journeyman in the construction, operation and maintenance of an Electric Distribution System.
  • Possess and maintain a current Class 3 Alberta motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved education and experience may be considered.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
