Mid/ Sr. Transmission Planning and Studies Engineer
This position is posted in Edmonton, Airdrie, Winnipeg, and the Maritimes, Canada. However, the selected candidate may be able to work remotely from other locations (please note in the application questions where you prefer to be located).
Roles and Responsibilities
This individual will be responsible for interfacing with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility transmission/distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems, including feasibility studies, system impact studies, reactive compensation studies, protective relay settings, critical clearing time, stability (transient & dynamic), long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, and a variety of EMT engineering design studies.
This engineer's level requires an individual who has experience participating in the proposal writing process and enjoys interacting with customers to help develop new opportunities for POWER. This person must be able to self-manage, with a strong conceptualization ability and effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills, including the capability to explain complex technical issues at various levels to decision-makers and project teams.

Required Education/Experience
- Requires a BSEE
- At least six (6) years of experience in bulk transmission planning and/or related electromagnetic (EMT) based design studies.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including proposal writing, report writing, and technical presentation.
- Experience with analysis software packages (PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, or other equivalent).
- Willing to travel (10% or more at times)
- Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment.
- Ability to deliver mentorship and leadership to junior engineers in the team.
- PEng or PE registration.
- An MSc or PhD is highly desirable.
- Python scripting experience is a plus.
- HVDC and FACTS modelling experience is a plus.
- IBRs' modelling experience is desirable.
