Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for passionate new talent to join our team. We are currently looking for a Specialist Sustainability. The Sustainability Specialist will be an integral part of the Sobeys National Corporate Sustainability team and play role in implementing key initiatives related to the Corporate Sustainability strategy. The Specialist will help deliver meaningful change related to environmental commitments that will be both measured and tracked for progress.
Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Sustainability, the role will liaise with a variety of functions across the business as well as external partners.
The objective of this position is to support, facilitate, and advance Sobeys’ Sustainability Strategy and related programs by designing, implementing and/or facilitating initiatives and programs, with a focus within the Products pillar.

- This opportunity is for a 6 month contract (with possibility of getting extended)**
- Build relationships with internal stakeholders for data gathering, calculating, reviewing, analyzing and organizing for key metrics related to our Products pillar.
- Supporting key areas of programming in our Products pillar, including human rights due diligence, animal welfare, supply chain decarbonization and supplier engagement.
- Support public reporting on key sustainability topics.
- Support the operation of key internal committees and working groups.
- Track sustainability-focused regulations in Canada and support information sharing with key internal stakeholders.
- Help develop the company’s approach to biodiversity and nature.
- Post-secondary Degree in environmental science, business sustainability, data analysis or related field of study.
- 1-3 years experience in sustainability related field preferred but recent graduates welcome to apply.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), managing databases, and data analysis.
- Motivated, proactive and passionate about making positive change.
- Strong communication skills in providing reports/briefings and presentations to inform decision-making.
- Ability to multi-task, organize and plan effectively, and work with multiple deadlines.
- Strong research skills and resourcefulness are essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player.
- Forward-thinking mindset with a demonstrated ability to be innovative and “think outside the box”.
- Positive attitude, with an optimistic outlook.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is not required, but a strong asset. The candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development, development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada
