Your role, your impact

As a Design Engineer, CANDU Shutdown Systems, you will work as part of a technical project team on technically challenging and interesting projects, to deliver technical documentation, hardware, and software to clients. You will ensure engineering changes (ECs) are compliant with BP-PROC-01081 (Engineering Change Control [ECC]), maintaining configuration management equilibrium, validating design basis integrity, and supporting regulated plant operation. You will apply ECC standards to guide the full engineering change lifecycle (scope definition to commissioning and turnover), ensuring traceability and audit readiness. You will also play a critical role in safeguarding nuclear safety pillars (industrial, reactor, radiation, and environmental) through rigorous application of ECC and risk-informed processes.

Your day-to-day

  • Create, manage, and process ECs through the ECC lifecycle in Maximo in alignment with BP-PROC-01081, including the selection of appropriate EC types (CIC, IEE, PER, Modifications) based on project requirements, stakeholder engagement, task execution, and configuration management in compliance with procedures;
  • Progress ECs through all Maximo lifecycle phases (INIT, DEV, DEF, PREP, EXECAUTH, TURN, CLOSEOUT) and ensure alignment with EC gate review requirements;
  • Support risk-informed ECs and proper use of screening forms such as FORM-14431 (Modifications) and FORM-14452 (Item Equivalency) as part of EC classification;
  • Participate in EC revision, Field Modification Tracking Sheet, and Field Change Notice processes to manage changes during execution or post turnover;
  • Populate and manage stakeholder reviews, verifications, approvals, and authorizations within Maximo workflows;
  • Complete and document all ECC tasks, including requirements traceability matrices, design deliverables, and commissioning plans;
  • Log, track, and resolve technical and stakeholder issues using Maximo Issues Tracking and other ECC change request processes;
  • Support field execution, commissioning validation, and turnover of ECs, ensuring all project configuration changes are properly validated and documented;
  • Ensure compliance with ECC quality standards, configuration management, and regulatory requirements;
  • Manage EC revisions, cancellations, replication, and closeout in accordance with ECC procedures and timelines.

Keys to your success

  • Bachelor’s degree (or similar post-secondary education) in computer science or engineering, with demonstrated academic excellence;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in the field of ECC and with Maximo;
  • Minimum 1 year of project experience related to CANDU shutdown systems, SDS1 and SDS2, and related technologies such as in-core fission chambers and Start-Up Instrumentation;
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a CANDU station, including proficiency with applicable station access, work management, work authorization and radiation protection processes and procedures;
  • Experience creating engineering design and test documentation;
  • Working knowledge of BP-PROC-01081 and related procedures and standards (e.g., BP-PROC-00615, BP-PROC-01122, BP-PROC-00982, BP-STND-00109) required for full ECC lifecycle management;
  • Working knowledge of the layout and design of a CANDU station, as proven by in-station experience.

Extra edge

  • Professional Engineer license in Ontario (or pursuing);
  • Experience preparing ECC deliverables such as Requirements Traceability Matrices, Software Requirements, Software Management Plans, Instrumentation Calibration Specifications, and Bills of Material;
  • Commissioning and installation experience;
  • Familiarity with EC stakeholder roles and governance structure as outlined in BP-PROC-01081 (e.g., Design Authority, FTL, OEL, Section Manager, Drafting, Supply Chain interfaces);
  • Proven ability to develop Change Papers (DCPs/DCNs) and execute On-Line Wiring (OLW) updates in accordance with ECC processes.
