The Senior Project Operations Specialist reports to the Project Manager and is responsible for coordinating engineering, procurement, and construction activities across assigned projects. This role involves continuous communication with project team members and proactive support across multiple scopes of work.

In addition to core coordination duties, the Senior Specialist leads and mentors junior operations staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance team. Responsibilities include assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring alignment with project goals.

The role requires a strong understanding of project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction, contract management, and project controls. The Senior Specialist maintains accurate documentation, supports milestone achievement, and ensures effective stakeholder communication.

Duties

As a key liaison, the Senior Specialist integrates activities across disciplines, tracks deliverables and schedules, and resolves coordination challenges. Leadership duties include:

  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff.
  • Leading coordination meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Assisting with resource planning and performance evaluations.

  • Driving continuous improvement in project operations.

This position requires experience and practical know-how of project execution needs for CFS projects, SP3 Facility management activities and our nuclear spare parts business.

Your Role Within The Team

These responsibilities ensure that the Senior Project Operations Specialist maintains high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the process.

  • Project Planning and Scope Definition: Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Define the project scope and deliverables in compliance with contract documents and client requirements. Draft various project type deliverables including Construction work packages, various project reports, commercial change notices, procurement requisitions, non-engineering turnover documents, etc.
  • Team Leadership and Coordination: Integrate with and coordinate a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders. Facilitate meetings, capture key discussions, and ensure clear and timely communication of decisions and action items.
  • Contract and Risk Management: Support aspects of contract administration, including scope and change control, subcontractor and supplier management, and risk management.
  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality requirements. Develop and enforce safety programs, training, and corrective action plans to maintain high performance standards.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Apply key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project health and performance. Implement rigorous reporting protocols to meet contract, corporate, and project-specific oversight requirements.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain Management: Support all contract management including scope & change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management and governance for any flow-down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Maintain strong communication channels with internal and external stakeholders. Ensure effective communication and coordination to keep all parties informed and aligned with project goals. Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, suppliers and other project stakeholders. Cultivate and maintain a positive relationship with client and subcontractors.
  • Nuclear Safety: Support all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all of the above.
  • Leadership: Support new personnel by providing mentoring, coaching and by assigning progressively more difficult tasks. Provide feedback to the manager with respect to the performance management activities.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Educational Background: Degree/diploma in Business, Finance, or Ops or equivalent is considered an asset and may be required depending on the specific technical requirements of the role.
  • Project Experience: Experience supporting projects in construction, manufacturing, or engineering services or relevant co-op experience considered an asset.
  • Nuclear Supply Chain: Understanding of nuclear supply chain and materials management principles considered an asset. Expert competency in use of CMMS is a necessity.

  • Quality Assurance: Appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications is considered an asset. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g.MS Office and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Project Delivery: Understanding of project delivery methodology, including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology, and inspection and test plans. Understanding of large EPC work including subcontracts, prime contract management is considered an asset.
  • Safety Knowledge: Working knowledge of industrial safety and nuclear safety culture.
  • Nuclear Facility Licensing: Experience with managing the ongoing operations within a Licensed Nuclear Facility.

  • This role is for the SP3 facility at 2231 Speakman Drive in Mississauga, with potential for visits to other Candu Energy facilities.
