Job Summary

Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the simulation & modelling group and support in the development and execution of the R&D roadmap for simulation development. Engage in more complex model development activities utilizing deep subject matter expertise in power electronics, MMC and FPGA. May also be assigned to assist the VP, R&D & CTO on coordinating or leading major development projects involving multiple groups/departments within the company or with external partners or customers.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the simulation & modelling group. Support the VP, R&D & CTO in the development and execution of the R&D roadmap for simulation development
  • Provide recommendations, updates, results etc. to the VP, R&D & CTO & Management Team regarding the technical direction of the R&D Simulation & Modeling function
  • Provide leadership & support in the simulation development, testing, analysis, and support of FPGA applications for RTDS products.
  • Advanced model development - FPGA based modelling capability within the RSCAD/RTDS simulation platform
  • Development, evaluation, analysis and implementation of mathematical control algorithms, coded into RTDS software, to solve complex FPGA simulation cases
  • Significant coding work using programming languages C, C++, Java, Python, FPGA etc.
  • Develop and document example cases of FPGA simulation cases. This will require keeping up to date with the latest technologies and techniques being applied in today’s modern FPGA applications in power systems industry
  • Participation in industry trade shows and international conferences dealing with Power electronics applications with FPGA
  • Writing and presenting technical papers at industry conferences
  • Lead installation and commissioning of RTDS simulators at customer sites and provide instruction on its operation
  • Provide simulation support to RTDS customers by email/telephone as needed for FPGA applications
  • Test new RTDS software functions and features as they are developed and implemented
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience, with emphasis in the area of real time simulation of power systems or related FPGA development
  • Minimum 15 years’ of industry experience in research & development of power systems/power electronics
  • Deep understanding of electrical power system and power electronics theory
  • Strong capability to analyze the electric circuits and to design parallel processing algorithms on FPGA
  • Demonstrated experience in FPGA Development & industry practices
  • Experience with programs such as PSCAD, RSCAD, MATLAB, preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel
  • Extensive experience working with FPGA environments, i.e. HLS or VHDL
  • Strong technical training, speaking, writing, and customer service skills
  • Ability to direct daily work activities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
