What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the Director of Member Engagement & Communications, and managing a dedicated and talented membership staff, you will be responsible for leading the design, implementation and evaluation of Landscape Ontario’s (LO) membership growth and retention strategy in alignment with LO’s strategic objectives. You will lead the development and implementation of strategies for membership growth and retention, while overseeing engagement with Landscape Ontario’s chapters and sector groups. This includes ensuring they receive the administrative, strategic, and promotional support needed to thrive, and serving as a key liaison to strengthen grassroots member engagement across the province. You will contribute to building a strong staff and community culture within the association while delivering and ensuring the highest level of service to members.


What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Leading the association’s overall efforts to recruit, retain, and engage membership.
  • Collaborating with the LO leadership, chapters, department staff, and key members to:
  • Design, implement, and evaluate engagement strategies that both stimulate ongoing member participation and drive renewal, using data to measure impact and refine approaches.
  • Establish short- and long-range plans and goals to achieve organization membership objectives
  • Outline, execute and evaluate a data-driven member engagement, retention, and recruitment strategy and implementation plan.
  • Identifying opportunities and collaborating with members, stakeholders, committees, chapters, sector groups, and colleagues to enhance member benefits and services offered by the Association.
  • Developing and managing processes for feedback on Landscape Ontario’s membership, programs, and services.
  • Overseeing membership data, tracking and reporting, including but not limited to:
  • Oversight of LO’s Association Management System, ensuring robust and accurate membership records
  • Membership trend analysis by region
  • Recruitment and retention reports
  • Current, new and prospective member information
  • Member experience throughout join and renewal process
  • Initiating and managing strategic partnerships with other related associations and groups to help recruitment and retention of membership.
  • Collaborating with the communications team to develop messaging and campaigns that clearly communicate the association’s member value proposition.
  • Working with the Director of Member Engagement and Communications, membership staff, Membership Committee, and Executive Director to set clear, measurable annual membership goals.. 
  • Providing monthly insight into membership revenue and tracking to annual goals.
  • Supporting a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and member service across the association’s operations, with a focus on continuous improvement and team collaboration.


Manager of Member Engagement Requirements
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams and motivating staff and volunteers in a member-based or not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience developing and executing successful strategies for member recruitment, engagement, retention, and renewal with measurable outcomes.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and engagement with members, chapters, sector groups, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working across departments (e.g., communications, events, operations) to align strategies, campaigns, and member touchpoints.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication with an ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels.
  • Analytical and data-driven, with a keen ability to interpret membership data and trends to inform strategy and report effectively on KPIs and ROI.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems (Salesforce and HubSpot experience is an asset), Google Workspace, and membership databases.Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, and a proactive approach to solving problems and seizing opportunities.
  • Deep commitment to delivering an exceptional member experience.
  • Experience supporting or planning member events, chapter meetings, or online sessions is an asset.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn about the landscape and horticultural trades is preferred.
  • Ability to travel within Ontario and occasionally work evenings or weekends to support events and chapter/sector activities as needed.
  • CAE designation is a strong asset.


About this position

  • Hybrid work model in place (2 days per week in office), allowing for flexibility in weekly schedule
  • Office located in Milton, ON at the 401 between James Snow Parkway and Trafalgar Rd.
