Northumberland Ferries Limited and Bay Ferries Limited, regional leaders in the passenger transportation industry, are seeking an experienced Accounting Payable Clerk to join our team (12 month contract with possible extension).

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To be a welcoming and helpful assistant to customers, clients, and employees by performing accounting duties, office administration, and reception duties. This role includes being the first point of contact with a variety of people requesting information either in person, electronically, or by other means. The Accounts Payable Clerk also ensures accounts payable are processed, assists with document preparation and distribution. The role requires a high level of organization, excellent time management skills, and a willingness to adapt and take on new duties.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Process accounts payable.
  • Generate payment of invoices in a timely manner.
  • Monitor multiple email addresses.
  • Sort, organize, and maintain office records and files.
  • Assist in month-end closing processes, including accruals and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and accounting standards.
  • Assist head office team with administrative tasks such as mailing, printing, and filing.
  • Maintain organized and up to date financial records and documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties, as required.

Education, Experience:

  • Post secondary diploma in office administration or accounting would be an asset.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct software would be an asset.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles and math calculations.
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Bilingual French/English would be an asset.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and diffuse conflict.

Schedule and Work Environment:

The workplace is the head office in Charlottetown and the workstation is an open reception desk near the entrance. The hours for this position are generally from 8am to 4pm; however, as an essential industry that operates seven days a week, evening and weekend work will sometimes be required.

We expect to offer the successful candidate a starting salary of around $45,000 to $52,000 annually. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with education and experience.
