NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Specialist to oversee and enhance our HVAC operations. This role involves supporting HVAC technician staff, leading initiatives, managing system buyoffs, overseeing handover processes, and implementing changes to improve system efficiency and reliability.


Key Responsibilities:


Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor HVAC technicians, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate training programs to enhance team skills and knowledge.


Project Management:

  • Lead HVAC-related initiatives, ensuring timely and within-budget completion.
  • Manage system buyoffs, ensuring all installations meet specified requirements.


Process Oversight:

  • Develop and manage handover processes for new HVAC systems or modifications.
  • Implement changes to existing systems to improve performance and compliance.


Technical Expertise:

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for complex HVAC issues.
  • Ensure all HVAC systems operate efficiently and comply with industry standards.


Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain compliance.


Other Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain and overhaul environmental control equipment such as condenser units, pumps, air handlers, heat exchangers, dehumidifiers and other mechanical equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment to control areas within specifications (35%, 10% and 1% relative humidity zones)
  • Identify maintenance risks on equipment.
  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
  • Identify parts and material for repairs and maintain refrigerant stock.
  • Follow the work procedure and comply with safety & standard.


Minimum Requirements:


Education & Certification:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or Journeyman Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (313A), or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years in commercial/industrial HVAC systems.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing HVAC teams and projects.


Skills:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Valid G3 or higher TSSA license (G1 or G2 is an asset)
  • ODP certificate
  • Proficiency in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of HVAC systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC safety practices and regulations.
  • Knowledge & experience with sorption dehumidifiers (desiccant wheel) units.
  • Be self-motivated and demonstrate skill, initiative and judgment to make decisions and communicate these decisions with departmental supervisory for approval.
