Our Community Connections Department is looking for a dedicated Community Connections Liaison to join the team.

Position Responsibilities

Reporting to the Community Connections Manager, the Community Connections Liaison is a member of the Community Connections Department. This position will be responsible for leadership, contract relationship management, community development, and supervision to support community-based individuals and groups in the direct and indirect delivery of programs, services, grants, sport tourism, or special projects. In addition to facilitating community access to City facilities and open spaces, there will be a focus on implementing the recreation and culture strategy, as well as sport and cultural events and initiatives. This role will also take a community development approach in service delivery and act as a liaison to the community on behalf of the City.

  • Liaise with community groups to direct them to the best resources within the City or with other organizations.
  • Align groups with appropriate City facilities and amenities.
  • Align groups for participation in events and/or initiatives that support their mandate.
  • Engage community groups to participate in public forums on issues that affect them, such as open houses, surveys, and workshops.
  • Represent the City with community groups, gaining visibility into their mandate to support them through recommendations.
  • Provide support to Events & Programming for City-sponsored initiatives in recreation, sport, and culture.
  • Collaborate regularly with internal departments to understand business practices and any changes that may affect group interactions.

Qualifications

  • Degree in recreation, sport, tourism, business administration or similar.
  • IAP2 training is considered an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of the recreation, sport, and culture community, various government ministries and funder mandates, programs and services.
  • Knowledge and experience with grant programs and alignment of applications with grant funding streams.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of municipal services; the principles of public recreation and a community development approach to service provision.
  • Ability to make sound judgments, gather information from a variety of sources and articulate findings effectively through verbal and written communication.
  • Thorough understanding of the concept of and application of marketing principles and practices to ensure a high degree of public accessibility.
  • Experience writing policies and procedures.
  • Planning and organization skills that empower engaged citizens to connect and revitalize their community.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and the techniques of budget preparation and preparation of fees and charges.
  • Report writing, facilitation and presentation.
  • Leadership, negotiation and team building.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of non profits and the Alberta Society’s Act, including bylaws and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and monitor a number of activities and range of projects that can involve complex situations and often conflicting needs and interests.
  • Ability to design or review and redesign existing processes to improve efficiency.

Hours

The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation

Starting salary $29.88 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
