Search Mandate: Yorktown Search Partners is conducting a confidential founder-level executive search on behalf of a private client in the merchant banking and advisory space.

Overview:

Yorktown Search Partners has been exclusively retained to identify a Managing Partner for a confidential client building a next-generation financial platform that blends merchant banking, capital advisory, and strategic co-investment. This role is a unique opportunity to take the helm of a highly entrepreneurial firm positioned for growth across private markets, media, and consumer sectors.

As Managing Partner, you will be responsible for defining and executing the firms strategic vision, managing external relationships, and overseeing capital markets and transaction execution at the highest level. This is a founder-track opportunity for a seasoned executive with deep financial acumen, deal fluency, and a strong commercial network.

There is no base salary. Compensation is fully performance-based and equity-linked, offering meaningful ownership and long-term upside.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the firms strategic direction, including market positioning, investment thesis development, brand building, and cultural values
  • Oversee the firms mandate architecture, capital markets strategy, and advisory product mix
  • Guide the firms growth across sectors including private capital, special situations, consumer brands, and media


Relationship & Business Development:

  • Serve as the firms primary relationship holder with investors, family offices, entrepreneurs, founders, and strategic partners
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with LPs, institutional allocators, and transaction syndicate partners
  • Lead origination efforts and represent the firm at industry events, media appearances, and board-level engagements


Oversight of Deal Teams & Execution:

  • Set standards for transaction execution, origination workflows, and mandate delivery
  • Oversee pipeline development, investment committee processes, and key diligence frameworks
  • Support cross-functional alignment between legal, finance, operations, and investment teams


Internal Talent & Culture:

  • Shape the leadership structure and firm-building roadmap
  • Recruit and mentor senior team members across operations, finance, and advisory
  • Promote a culture of ownership, high-performance, and aligned incentives


Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 10-20+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, merchant banking, or alternative asset management
  • Demonstrated leadership in scaling boutique firms, launching funds, or driving advisory-driven investment strategies
  • Proven ability to lead high-level client relationships, manage complex transactions, and build commercial ecosystems
  • Strong capital formation track record and deep LP/family office relationships preferred
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the credibility, vision, and endurance to grow a founder-led platform


Ideal First Hire:

Once in role, the Managing Partner will be expected to identify and onboard a President or Chief of Staff - a trusted internal operator with experience in boutique financial environments. This hire will oversee day-to-day operations, freeing the Managing Partner to focus on high-leverage external growth and platform leadership.

Equity Participation & Alignment Requirement:

This is a founder-level leadership opportunity with significant equity ownership, carried interest, and performance-linked compensation. To ensure alignment with the firms capital-first philosophy, the Managing Partner will be required to make a $50,000 capital investment. This investment secures equity participation, decision-making authority, and long-term incentive exposure across firm-wide mandates.
