SOLVE FSHD

Date: 5 days ago
City: Vancouver, British Columbia
Contract type: Full time

Who We Are

Solve FSHD is a venture philanthropic organization focused on developing effective therapies for Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). FSHD is a type of muscular dystrophy in which there is progressive muscle degeneration and weakness that lead to an inability to lift objects, groom oneself and walk. In FSHD there is preferential weakness of skeletal muscles of the face, the shoulder (scapula), and in the upper arm, in most cases progressing to the legs.

Our purpose is to accelerate the pace of finding new treatments for FSHD through funding the development of critical tools for drug development including biomarkers, cells and pre-clinical model development, clinical outcome assessments and clinical trial research networks that focus on FSHD. We will also invest in start-up biotech and biopharmaceutical companies that focus on novel treatments relevant to FSHD, disease modifying or symptom management, and muscle regeneration. Solve FSHD will also oversee an XPRIZE, Healthspan and FSHD Bonus Prize award to incentivize new approaches to Solving FSHD.

Solve FSHD is part of House of Wilson, a team of outdoors-loving and health-conscious people, who take great pride in the open and inclusive work culture we have built. We encourage people to speak up and we hear all voices equally. We’re driven to maximize the potential of the people we work with, so we invest in our employees and empower them to develop personally and professionally. We value learning, integrity, and fun, and are passionate about working with people who share these values.
