This position holds primary responsibility for coordinating daily supervision of all activities involved with sterile compounding of IV medications in accordance with established corporate procedures and provincial pharmacy laws.
The pharmacist is responsible to control the processes to ensure that all products meet both professional and corporate standards of accuracy and quality.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Making optimal use of professional knowledge and experience in managing and directing the pharmacy resources, the pharmacist is responsible to maintain the standards required by Calea and the profession of pharmacy.
Supervise technical staff and coordinate pharmacy activities with distribution and order entry staff. Communicate with customers regarding pharmacy services and clarify issues with physicians, nurses and pharmacists.
Ability to work under stress, with short lead times, and changing customer demands with short turnaround times. There is the need for absolute "zero defect" work in a high pressure environment.
Demonstrate a strong ability to lead and mentor members of the pharmacy team. Must possess superlative external as well as internal customer service skills.
Principal Accountabilities
Internally, the Pharmacist interacts with staff in the Pharmacy and the Operational departments. Externally, there is daily contact with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, hospitals and home care agencies.

Principal Accountabilities
- Supervise the staff and activities in the pharmacy.
- Supervise all activities related to the dispensing of product to ensure that the pharmacy complies with
- Ensure appropriate clinical functions are completed including patient counseling, appropriate documentation, pharmaceutical care etc.
- Direct and prioritize the production process utilizing professional knowledge to recognize critical customer needs. Utilize the pharmaceutical literature and Calea Standard Operating Procedures as the basis for judgment of pharmacy issues relating to the compounding of admixtures.
- Ensure S.O.P. or policy and procedure requirements are incorporated into daily procedures and correctly followed by staff in the execution of all duties.
- Establish, validate and maintain quality assurance procedures, and records.
- Observe and assess the equipment, materials and procedures used in the facility and recommend changes where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain proficiency in the relevant pharmacy computer systems to optimize productivity and efficiency.
- Develop new techniques and products which improve pharmacy performance or product quality.
- Participate in the training and mentoring of new employees and students,
- Respond to information requests from customers, other health disciplines and Calea personnel related to drug information and pharmacy practice.
- Develop and maintain specialized knowledge of drug therapy (all routes of administration) and medication compatibility, stability and interaction.
- Provide daily customer support for all pharmacy related products and services.
- Maintain Corporate Quality Standards through Quality Control Activities to meet Facility Compliance:
- Reviews records of Environmental Monitoring and Cleaning for Out of Specifications
- Ensures that Calibration of Equipment is carried out
- Assesses Deviations for impact on compounded product
- Assist in production activities (i.e., compounding of product) when the workload requires.
- Assist the Manager and Pharmacy Supervisor in the performance of their responsibilities and assume additional duties as directed.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to Calea’s patient safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in departmental clinical and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain up-to-date training designated for this position via QSi

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Generally comfortable office and pharmacy clean room environment
- Pharmacists are required to be to be on call on a rotational basis
- Education: Minimum university undergraduate degree in pharmacy.
- Licensed in the province of practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints.
- Good interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.
