Core Function:

Assists the Director in coordinating a high quality nursing care service that complies with relevant

government legislations, policies and standards, and reflects the organization's vision, strategic direction and resident centred approach.


Qualifications:

  1. Registered Nurse with current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario; Bachelor's degree in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Minimum 4 years nursing experience, including experience in Geriatrics, Rehabilitation and Long Term Care Nursing, and at least 3 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting, preferably in long term care
  3. Current CPR Certificate
  4. Strong leadership abilities. Ability to be flexible and agile and be a change leader in a highly demanding environment
  5. Ability to build, manage and coach an effective, engaged, and high functioning team
  6. Excellent conflict resolution and problem solving skills. Strong presentation skills
  7. Excellent organizational and time management skills
  8. Superb customer service skills
  9. Computer literacy required
  10. Experience with preparing and monitoring financial budgets.
  11. Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Screen result
  12. Ability to communicate in Chinese, an asset.


Responsibilities:

  1. Assists the Director in coordinating high quality nursing services
  2. Coordinates staff recruitment exercise to ensure adequate staffing to meet the needs of the Nursing Department
  3. Ensures compliance of staff scheduling policies and procedures
  4. Oversees resident care of the assigned units including monitoring, communication with residents, families and prompt intervention
  5. Coaches, develops, evaluates and appropriately deploys staff to ensure a strong, effective and efficient team with good morale
  6. Assesses training needs of the department, and coordinates staff development programs, including orientation, in-service and certificate programs for the professional and nonprofessional nursing staff, to ensure a strong, effective and efficient team to ensure a strong, effective and efficient team
  7. Provides leadership and coordinates the RAI-MDS, CQI, Infection Prevention & Control, Restorative programs, and Health and Safety programs, as assigned, in the Department
  8. Reviews policies and procedures relating to nursing and resident care and health and safety issues, and recommends changes to the Director as necessary
  9. Coordinates and ensures accurate and up-to-date information management system for the Department
  10. Coordinates special programs or projects as assigned
  11. Implements effective risk management and quality improvement programs, including infection control, occupational health and safety, incidents and falls, etc.
  12. Acts as back up to the Director of Resident Care in his/her absence
  13. Works closely with the other Assistant Director of Resident Care, and acts as his/her backup when required
  14. Keeps up-to-date with developments and best practices in the field
  15. Other duties as assigned
