Position Details The External Relations Content Specialist develops and coordinates communications strategies, materials and content that support External Relations objectives, and ensures they are aligned with the institutional strategic communication plan and advance the brand and public image of the University for alumni and donors. This is a full-time, in-person, continuing position on the Lethbridge Campus.

Reporting to the Director, Alumni and Community Relations, and working closely with colleagues across External Relations and in the Department of Communications, Marketing and Government Relations (CMGR), the External Relations Content Specialist works to thoughtfully and effectively engage our community of alumni, donors and prospects through compelling communications using various channels. This position is responsible for creative and tactical planning, implementation and project management of integrated communications plans, projects and strategies to increase alumni engagement, raise philanthropic support and develop champions and ambassadors who help share ULetbridge’s story.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Proactively writing, editing, and creating content; coordinating, executing and evaluating External Relations communications projects and assignments which may include: web content, print publications, proposals, impact reports, case statements, letters, video storyboarding and scripts, video creation, speaking notes, invitations, media releases, stories, profiles or advertisements.
  • Producing compelling stories and profiles that demonstrate impact and inspire alumni engagement and donor support.
  • Developing and executing project strategies and integrated communication plans across all channels to successfully engage External Relations audiences and inspire action.
  • Providing creative support including strategy, content creation and editing for External Relations, ensuring high-quality and consistent messaging.
  • Providing support for External Relations-related projects led by the Department of Communications, Marketing and Government Relations, Faculties or other campus units.
  • Contributing to content used in digital platforms, using analytics and reporting to inform content strategy.
  • Developing high-level, customized writing for targeted audiences, reflecting the voices of senior leadership in letters, internal messaging, speaking notes, etc.
  • Liaising with External Relations partners across campus to ensure a consistent strategy when planning creative projects and contacting alumni, donors and volunteers.
  • Ensuring all strategies and content align with ULethbridge’s Strategic Plan, MarCom plan and institutional brand.
  • Providing communication planning, content creation, coordination and support for events.
  • Supporting institutional communications and implementation of the strategic communication plan from an External Relations perspective.

Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years-experience in a communication role, preferably with a focus on donor relations, alumni relations, stakeholder engagement or a related field.
  • Experience in a post-secondary environment is preferred.
  • Advanced writing and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire through impactful storytelling and various written assignments, including editorial/feature writing, writing for the web, proposal writing, case statements, annual fund campaign content.
  • Experience with digital storytelling tools (photography, video editing and multimedia), as well as Canadian Press writing standards, would be an asset.
  • Experience with social media and media relations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Comfortable interacting with many different individuals in a variety of contexts (alumni, employees, students, donors, volunteers and external partners).
  • Proven ability to effectively work across multiple departments and portfolios within an organization to collectively achieve institutional goals.
  • Proven event communications/marketing planning and execution experience.
  • High level of digital literacy, including Office 365, RE NXT, Drupal, ThankView and other marketing and communication platforms.
  • Creative mindset to propose new initiatives and improve efficiency of current services or operations, using data to measure effectiveness.
  • Experience successfully managing multiple projects from conception to completion within tight prescribed deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, alumni relations, and move management principles would be an asset.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,291.00 - $5,990.00 monthly
Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $5,291.00 - $6,687.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 12)
