The Facilities Maintenance Painter works under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or designate and is responsible for the preparation and painting of exterior and interior surfaces of plant and equipment operated by Transit.


As the Facilities Maintenance Painter you will:

  • Prepare and paint off-site facilities such as bus shelters, comfort stations, fences, power poles, and Transit terminal amenities.
  • Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces at transit facilities and garages.
  • Prepare and paint shop equipment, safety lines, and signage, including graffiti removal, touch-up painting.
  • Assist the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in the selection of appropriate finishes to be used on transit facilities and equipment.
  • Assist the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor in the selection and purchasing of appropriate painting equipment to be used in the Facilities Maintenance and Stops & Loops Branches.
  • Assist in familiarizing, training and directing the work of a Helper when required.
  • Ensure work areas are maintained appropriately in accordance to safety regulations, which includes proper clean-up and disposal of paint materials prior to end of shift and at completion of projects.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Your education and qualifications include

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must be a Certified Journeyman Painter, as issued by the Province of Manitoba
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in commercial painting, including experience on mixing and applying all types of paints, using; brushing, rolling apparatus and spraying techniques as well as application onto all types of surfaces
  • Must have a proven exceptional work record (safety and job performance).
  • Proven ability to work efficiently with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Ability to accurately estimate material requirements for specific projects and prepare basic project cost summaries where required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external agencies and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and express ideas succinctly and professionally.
  • Ability to make sound decisions, establish and rearrange priorities effectively on a continual basis.


Conditions of employment:

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Must be free of any physical restrictions that would prevent the performing of the physical/ manual labour duties required of this classification, which include the ability to work from scaffolding and ladders up to 30 feet high.
  • Must be able to work in an environment involving exposure to dust, noise, extreme temperature/weather and diesel exhaust fumes.
