ROLE PURPOSE

This position will perform cleaning related tasks necessary to ensure that resident's rooms are safe, clean and that common areas are as attractive and clean as possible. Perform a variety of duties in relation to the preparation and distribution of meals and the cleaning of dining room areas to the required standard.

STATUS

Non-unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

HOURS

The casual position candidate should be able to confirm availability for 21 shifts (7 days) per month (7 overnight), or 15 shifts (5 days) per month (5 overnight) - if holding a FT job or student.

Note: The actual number of shifts will depend on Organizational needs.

Key Accountabilities

  • General cleaning tasks including vacuuming, dusting, washing floors and windows, cleaning bathrooms, and changing beds
  • Food preparation including food preparation and cooking as required
  • Perform all duties in relation to the distribution of food
  • Ensure food is served in accordance with the dietary requirements of the residents
  • Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals. Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits. Maintains an inventory of food and other related items.
  • Check and collect laundry from residents
  • Collect garbage
  • Move furniture as required to clean
  • Transport and move supplies and equipment
  • Assist in the dining room and laundry room as required
  • Utilize cleaning supplies and products in accordance with established procedures
  • Responsible for bringing up supplies from storerooms – making sure carts and supply areas are stocked
  • Ensure cleaning equipment and supplies are stored in a safe and efficient manner
  • Report any situations that may be considered unsafe or a health risk
  • Interact with residents in a manner that respects their individual rights and dignity, ensuring privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times
  • Attend staff in-service and continuing education programs, and approved work-related conferences and seminars
  • Perform other related duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Functions independently, while remaining a crucial member of the care team
  • Carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching
  • Work within a social model approach
  • Handle confidential / sensitive material with integrity and discretion
  • Adheres to Connective policies and procedures
  • Is available to work flexible hours as needed, which may include some evenings/weekends, as determined by program/client needs and schedules

Experience And Skills

  • Minimum grade 10 education
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • One (1) month recent related experience
  • Experience in the areas of Community Living and Licensed Care is preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare laws and regulations
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

Requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully complete reference check
  • Ability to provide a record of work history
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to complete general housekeeping duties (i.e., sweeping, mopping, wiping areas, laundry, changing light bulbs)

Compensation

The starting wage is $24.97 - $28.62 per hour plus benefit.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
