Day in the Life

We are seeking a skilled Project Manager/Estimator to join our team, responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the estimation and execution of construction projects, particularly in small bridge repair. This role involves managing the bid process, developing project strategies, preparing cost estimates, and ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. The successful candidate will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to guarantee project success.


Key Responsibilities:


Estimating:

  • Provide cost estimates for diverse project components across the project’s scope.
  • Coordinate contractor estimates for the target price and ensure accuracy through collaboration with other teams.
  • Organize and manage the Estimating Team's work, including quantity take-offs, procurement package preparation, comparison sheets, and risk identification.
  • Specialize in civil engineering estimating tasks, including ground improvement, dewatering, piling, soil grouting, and earthwork.
  • Develop strategic and competitive plans for tenders and prepare thorough, accurate estimates.
  • Manage project budgets during the design phase and ensure constructability before sub-trade tendering.


Project Management:

  • Plan, organize, and evaluate construction project estimations from start to finish.
  • Develop and execute project strategies that meet performance, schedule, and profitability targets.
  • Supervise the bid process and oversee tendering, risk assessment, and sub-trade contract awards.
  • Identify and resolve issues proactively.
  • Prepare preliminary and draft project schedules, as well as project forecasts for potential claims.


Health, Safety & Environment:

  • Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing safety standards, policies, and procedures.


Collaboration & Communication:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate project goals, objectives, and corrective actions effectively.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid, and pre-award meetings as necessary.
  • Negotiate major purchase and subcontract agreements.


Compliance & Improvement:

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary information.
  • Ensure compliance with estimating processes and procedures for consistency and accuracy.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upgrade of the estimating database and software.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive estimating experience in civil construction or related disciplines, with at least 3 years of leading small to medium-sized capital construction projects
  • Proficiency in estimating software, particularly HCSS, Bluebeam, Plant Swift, and AutoCAD
  • Strong skills in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction-related documents

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field
  • PMP Certification
