Position Summary

Reports to: Construction Manager

The Traffic Manager will design and coordinate traffic requirements during construction and minimize the impact on traffic operations and temporary designs.

Key Responsibilities Are

Responsible for all traffic and transportation design aspects of the project, including design, coordination, and preparation of the Traffic and Transit Management Plan and associated subplans, and interface with stakeholders and government authorities.

  • Coordinate internal and external regulatory approval process and manage relationships and lead the coordination and schedule meetings with stakeholders, including governmental authorities.
  • Assists in design and engineering of temporary works for the transit department.
  • Liaise with the urban leadership, ministries, and construction staff, as needed.
  • Create traffic solutions based on requirements in the project agreement.
  • Work closely with supervisors, in monitoring traffic and transit operations and bring issues to a resolution.
  • Recommend changes in signal phasing and timing, pavement markings and signage to the staff as needed.
  • Work proactively to ensure that plans are in place to transition to the next phase in terms of detours, signage, pavement markings, signals and PVMS installations.
  • Prepares traffic control plans using Rapid Plan Software and CADD.
  • Participates in preparation of Traffic and Transit Management Plans (TTMP).
  • Liaising with the City, TTC, the Contracting Authority and MTO, as required.
  • Overseeing all requirements of Project Agreement that contribute to the safety, convenience, and orderly movement of vehicle, cycling, pedestrian and transit traffic; and
  • Attending regularly scheduled traffic management meetings.
  • Development, implementation, and management of the TTMP.
  • Ensuring that the Contracting Authority, City of Toronto, and TTC are kept informed of all upcoming traffic activities and any revisions to the TTMP.
  • Ensuring that appropriate modifications are made to the TTMP if the specified traffic control measures are not achieving the requirements.
  • Coordinating with persons carrying out work in areas adjacent to the Lands.
  • Co-chairing (with the Contracting Authority) the Transportation Management Committee.
  • Ensuring the timing and organized delivery of public and Stakeholder communication information.

Education And Qualifications

  • Background knowledge and experience in Traffic Operations, Traffic Signal Installation, and time plan development.
  • P. Eng is an asset.
  • 7-10 years of traffic experience, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience.

Requirements

  • Valid class G driver license required.
  • Knowledge of OTM Book 7
  • Knowledge of Rapid Plan Software and AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Experience working in a construction environment is a requirement.
  • Networks and relationships with GTA subcontractors are a plus.
  • Post-secondary education and/or work experience in a related field.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office suite, including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of traffic best practices, traffic regulations, and conditions is required.
  • Results oriented with the ability to effectively manage and multi-task priorities, timelines, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment; and
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Logical approach to trouble shooting and problem solving.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent time and Project Management skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of Products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
