How Will You Create An Impact
The Advisor, Workplace Safety Strategy, the Advisor is responsible for aligning WHS services with Interior Health’s (IH) strategic and operational plans. Establishing requirements for an effective health and safety management system. The Advisor will support Interior Health’s ability to continuously identify hazards and control risk in the workplace.
The Advisor participates in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of WHS strategies, and is responsible and accountable for WHS practices and regulatory compliance and for contributing to the development of broader Human Resources policy and direction.
The Advisor will engage with both internal and external agencies and working groups whose mandates are strategic planning and partnership to enhance systems for managing health and safety and improving outcomes.
In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.

What Will You Work On
- Develops, implements, and monitors strategic plans to support the organizational targets and the implementation/sustainability of the Health and Safety Management System. Monitors, audits, and evaluates the effectiveness of OHS programs and reports findings to the organization as requested or required.
- Provides technical advice, guidance and leadership by interpreting regulations, collective agreements, directives, and standards, including the application of safety procedures and standards of practice, appropriate intervention, and/or preventative measures.
- Serves as a senior advisor to key partners who are change sponsors within the organization to action the organization strategic priorities related to health and safety.
- Provides guidance and advice to members of the organization with respect to their roles and responsibilities in the internal responsibility system.
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures relating to OHS issues by interpreting WorkSafeBC (WSBC) and other legislated requirements, researching current literature, analyzing statistics, collaborating with other centers of expertise.
- Develops tools, guidelines, and resources to support site and department based implementation of corporate OHS program policies and procedures.
- Develops and provides reports as requested.
- Monitors and/or audits work site inspection reports to identify trends and provides appropriate recommendations to management to correct unsafe and hazardous conditions and/or processes.
- Participates and represents IH perspectives in provincial and/or organizational initiatives. Including supporting the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) to full scope of regulatory requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
