Position Summary

The Therapeutic Recreation facilitator is directly responsible to the Manager, Resident Experience. S/he is responsible for assessment planning, implementing, conducting and evaluating programs for assigned residents in The Simkin Centre on both an individual and group basis. S/he performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Have completed the Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Certificate from Red River Community College

SKILLS And EXPERIENCE

  • Two years previous Therapeutic Recreation programming/facilitating experience in a long term care facility.
  • Ability to work directly with older adults in the area of Therapeutic Recreation programs.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of the Therapeutic Recreation team.
  • Possess good written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Physical and mental health required to meet the demands of the position.
  • Ability to work co-operatively as a member of the resident care team.


KNOWLEDGE

  • Ability to assess residents’ capabilities, limitations, and special needs.
  • Ability to operate all equipment in the Therapeutic Recreation department.
  • Knowledge of the traditions, customs, and religion in accordance with Judaism is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in the implementation of programming for individuals with dementia.
  • Experience with planning, creating and publishing social media on a variety of platforms.
