Your role
Are you interested in the compliance and operational risk framework of the distribution of separate managed accounts, registered funds and alternative investments to institutional clients? Do you have knowledge of anti-money laundering, know-your client and financial crime prevention processes? Do you know the relevant provincial and federal laws and regulations, in particular Ontario and Quebec, for asset management and financial crime prevention?
As a Compliance and Operational Risk Control Officer, you will:
You will be part of the team that covers the UBS Asset Management-aligned Compliance and Operational Risk Control (C&ORC) and Financial Crime Prevention (FCP) functions in Canada and will be working with C&ORC and FCP team members in Canada and the United States. You will be reporting to the Head of C&ORC of UBS Canada as part of a team that covers UBS Global Wealth Management’s, UBS Investment Bank’s and UBS Asset Management’s businesses in Canada.
Our duties include implementing the C&ORC Framework of UBS, and ensuring compliance, operational and FCP risks are identified, properly assessed and managed. You'll play an important role in helping us develop risk mitigating measures, controls, independent challenges and adequate remediation plans.

As a Compliance and Operational Risk Control Officer, you will:
- support UBS Asset Management Canada's funds with regulatory guidance and manage compliance, financial crime prevention, control and operational risk frameworks
- supervise Anti-Money Laundering/Know Your Client (AML/KYC) matters including Customer Due Diligence/Enhanced Due Diligence, high risk customer reviews, alert investigations and suspicious activity escalations
- oversee the development and review of compliance and AML/KYC policies to ensure they meet regulatory expectations and aligned with enterprise-wide standards
- interact with provincial and federal regulators, including preparation of the applicable periodic regulatory filings
- develop, review and evaluate surveillance reports from internal systems and third-party vendors, escalating to responsible parties as needed

Your expertise
- 5+ years’ experience in asset management compliance, legal, financial crime prevention, regulatory, risk, bank-affiliated and/or operational risk expertise
- strong partnership and relationship building and strong communication skills
- ability to discuss operational arrangements within an Asset Management or related business and challenge the business with an independent control mindset
- excellent analytical skills, independence, decision-making authority and collaboration skills
- fluency in English and French (written & verbal) is preferred
- ability to deliver projects and communicate within defined timelines
- reliable and resilient in handling challenging situations and conversations
- completed relevant industry courses and experience in dealing with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) on matters pertaining to portfolio managers or exempt market dealers
