Position Details

Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture – Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

Reporting to the Director, Agriculture Production and Research, this position is responsible for data collection, organization, and analysis; database management, and presenting complex economic, financial, and statistical information to policymakers, farmers, and industry organizations. This position is also responsible for; supporting Divisional scientists by conducting statistical analysis of data collected from internally led applied research projects; providing consultative knowledge and advice to professional departmental staff and stakeholders on economic and statistical analysis such as cost of production studies, financial analysis, questionnaire design, etc. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate Canadian/international agricultural markets, international trade, and policy impacts. A demonstrated understanding of provincial and federal government legislation, and programs to assess compliance and/or impact of interprovincial and/or international agreements is required. Excellent communication skills are essential to transfer complex economic concepts into practical insights for diverse stakeholders and evidence of the ability to operate as a team player is also required.


Screening Criteria

  1. Completion of degree in Economics or Statistics (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Experience organizing and analyzing data using statistical software programs
  3. Experience extrapolating and presenting data and results from various published sources
  4. Experience presenting information to stakeholders, clients, and others
  5. Understanding of interprovincial/international agriculture related legislation, trade agreements and policies (asset)
  6. Experience with agriculture industry (asset)


Assessment Criteria

  1. Knowledge of agricultural economics and trade

  3. Knowledge and experience with statistical analysis and associated software
  4. Knowledge of agrifoods (asset)
