Mission

We are looking for an experienced Overhead Catenary System (OCS) Superintendent to join the Edmonton Valley Line West project and report directly to the OCS package manager. The OCS Superintendent will be responsible for all OCS installations along the alignment, and the OCS pre-assembly teams located at the Marigold warehouse in Edmonton.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Management team to plan, monitor and coordinate OCS site construction activities as per the defined scope of work.
  • Prepare works schedule, in coordination with the Site Engineer/Coordinator and under the supervision of the package manager.
  • Co-operate with the Engineers, Inspectors and related Parties on Site to ensure the OCS works following the schedule.
  • Together with the Site Engineer/Coordinator and under the authority of the OCS package manager, select, mobilize and administrate the OCS human resources required to complete the OCS scope of work.
  • Supervise OCS foremen and crews on site and provide technical support and solutions.
  • Supervise OCS foremen and crews at the Warehouse, provide technical support and solutions and control that they respect the pre-assembly schedule required to ensure continuous installation works on site.
  • Organize and direct all OCS activities, site teams and equipment to stick to the pre-established schedule.
  • Review and record individual employee attendance records.
  • Review and check all work performed is in accordance with the approved drawings and project specifications.
  • Plan and coordinate site activities with Safety, Quality and Traffic Control departments to guarantee applicable procedure enforcement.
  • Plan and coordinate site activities with other sub-systems construction representatives to avoid/minimize installation conflicts (clashes).
  • Take all necessary steps to maintain a safe working environment (quality and performance), ensure the safety integrity of all activities undertaken by the staff.
  • Comply with the monthly safety activities required as per MIP policy (safety inspection, good catch/near misses, etc.)
  • Assist in the Investigation of on-the-job accidents/incidents for cause and prevention.
  • Monitor material usage and material reports to ensure proper inventory control.
  • Conduct training sessions on technical and safety issues as required.
  • Initiate Field Change Directive in close relation with field engineer/coordinator.
  • Report Non-Conformity to the package manager or Field Engineer when required.
  • Monitor Non-Conformity to implement at site solution defined for closing it within the allowed timeframe.
  • Report any close call, incident or accident to the safety department and the line management.
  • Actively represent the company in a professional manner at all times by providing clear on-site communication / clear understandable works reports / regular communication with the concerned parties responsible for timely escalation of any issues or occurrences.
  • Other duties assigned by Line Manager

Requirements

  • Completed post-secondary degree or diploma in construction-related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 5-8 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Heavy civil construction experience, preferably in LRT or similar public infrastructure projects
  • Ability to handle multi-tasks with strong organization skills.
  • Computer proficiency including MS Office, Primavera, SharePoint, JDEdwards
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and other construction documents
  • Good communication skills, ability to plan and organize daily activities, action-oriented, high ability to analyze and resolve problems, ability to perform under pressure and able to be flexible and adapt to dynamic environments.
  • Strong team-spirit, ability to create cohesion between the teams.
  • Ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/ slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions.
