Background Information:

The purpose of this request is to acquire a resource to work alongside existing Leads, User Experience Design (UX) and Customer Experience (CX), to consult with product teams, clinical leads and target users to gather in-depth qualitative and quantitative insights that can be used to drive intuitive and efficient product design experiences that help ease the burden on providers.

Must Haves

  • Extensive experience with User experience (UX) design for complex web sites and applications (6+ years)
  • Proven experience with information architecture (IA), interaction design (wireframing and prototyping), and visual UI design (hi-fidelity mockups)
  • Proven experience with User experience (UX) research methodologies and conducting research activities, including interviews, personas, customer journeys, usability testing and user feedback loops (6+ years)
  • Extensive experience with research planning and participant recruitment
  • Highly proficient in performing thematic analysis and compiling insights reports with prioritized recommendations to drive product design decisions and roadmaps
  • Strong task flow analysis skills and ability to generate current and future-state user flows
  • Experience developing and managing surveys and other user feedback mechanisms
  • Documented experience with Usability Evaluations or Heuristic Evaluations
  • Good knowledge of WCAG and/or AODA and experience with compliance testing
  • Must have strong facilitation skills and experience leading client workshops remotely
  • Work within a fast-paced and Agile environment
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • Experienced with Adobe XD and/or Figma

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Lead, Experience Design and Senior Manager, Experience Design (UX) to understand strategic direction and priorities
  • Consult with business, technical, CX team, clinical leads and users to gain a deep understanding of the user needs, the issues to solve, the existing workflows, and the technical constraints
  • Communicate with - and provide guidance to - internal teams, external partners and vendors on UX deliverables
  • Perform heuristic evaluations of existing products to determine opportunities and gaps
  • Conceive, plan and conduct iterative UX research (ex: user interviews, focus groups, surveys) and perform thematic analysis to translate user feedback into actionable insights and prioritized recommendations
  • Leverage user data and user-centred design to build out product taxonomies, IA, sitemaps, user flows, UI content, customer journey maps, wireframes, prototypes and mockups
  • Product Iterate on design and functionality by performing usability testing to ensure the delivery of effective, user-friendly experiences and visually appealing interfaces for clinical and patient-facing web sites and applications
  • Conduct iterative design reviews with product teams and partners for feedback and clarity
  • Perform end-to-end validation of screens to ensure compliance with UX/UI specifications and AODA (WCAG Level AA) guidelines and work with business, technical teams and vendors to address defects
  • Provide regular status updates to the product team, UX Lead, and Senior Manager, Experience Design (UX) on progress and blockers
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Desired Skills

  • A professional accreditation or certification in User Experience (UX)
  • Experience working on complex programs with multiple workstreams
  • Extensive experience as a UX designer, designing complex digital products and services across various devices and screen resolutions
  • Relevant experience in planning and recruiting for user research studies, including managing screeners, agreements and honorariums
  • Ability to collaborate with business teams to gather requirements and translate them into intuitive, user-centric solutions
  • Experience in translating user insights into sitemaps, user flows, user journey maps, concepts/wireframes, mock-ups and prototypes
  • Experience with designing AODA (WCAG Level AA) compliant experiences, including performing AODA audits/testing
  • Expertise consulting on UX and UI best practices, AODA and inclusive design
  • Experience working with technical teams to understand the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies and clearly communicate design decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to devise simple, efficient solutions
  • A team player with a reputation for meeting deadlines, managing competing priorities and maintaining client relationships
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate for UX research and collaborate with partners at all levels and clearly and effectively communicate design processes, ideas and solutions to team members
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe XD and/or Figma design and prototyping tools
  • Experience with digital whiteboarding tools such as Mural, Miro and/or Figjam
  • Experience working in a health care setting and/or with digital health solutions
  • Experience working in the public sector

Required Experience / Evaluation Criteria

  • Experience designing for complex web-based applications across a range of devices.: 30 Points

  • Experience creating user flows, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes and mock-ups.: 20Points
  • Hands-on experience designing for AODA/WCAG 2.0 Level AA compliance (or higher). 10 Points
  • Experience working with a design system. 5 Points

Knowledge Transfer Details

  • The Candidate will ensure full knowledge transfer is provided to the Ontario Health team before end of engagement.
  • The Candidate must provide all documentation related to UX design and research, including source files and reports, as part of knowledge transfer protocol.
  • Documents will be reviewed by leads and signed off by manager.
  • The Candidate should provide knowledge transfer to a full-time Lead, User Experience Design resource, at a least two weeks prior to end of engagement.
  • A complete walkthrough of accomplished work, including all design assets and research documentation, to the team will be required before end of agreement.
  • All research documents and design assets are considered OH material and will be transferred to OH archives.
