Position Purpose summary: The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Innisfail Thrift Store.

The target hiring range for this position is $15.75 to $19.69 with a maximum of $23.63.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Job Description
Position Purpose summary: The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming product and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Innisfail Thrift Store.
Accountabilities
Operations:
- Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner.
- Protect the integrity of all donated items.
- Responsible for accurate completion of all customer transactions including cash and debit sales.
- Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards
- Opening and closing of store following store procedures when required
- Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing and storing donations.
- Possess knowledge of stock in order to respond to customer enquiries by phone/in person.
- Pay particular attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store.
- Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation.
- Contribute to the control of inventory by receiving, sorting, and pricing as per directions.
- Assist with store layout plans to attract customers, which include window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”.
- Replenish inventory levels based on supervisor’s directions.
- Removal of inventory from sales floor as directed.
- Maintain the proper sorting and processing of all donated goods, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store, tidy up and restock shelves, clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary.
- Abide by store policy and procedures.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
- Inform your supervisor of all customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.
- Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, cleans spillage).
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for handling cash and debit sales.
- Contribute to store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
- Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store.
- This is a part-time position at 24 hours per week with the potential to pick up extra hours at the Innisfail Thrift Store
- Schedule is 4 days a week, 6 hours per day, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.
- Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturday’s
- Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required.
- Ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of Secondary School.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.
- Cash handling experience is required.
- Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset.
- Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Maintain information in confidence as required
- Participate as an active and responsible team member.
- Participate in mandatory orientation training.
- Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
- Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner.
- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
- Brand awareness would be an asset.
- Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Represent The Salvation Army in a positive manner
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

- Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
