LRO Staffing is working with a respected national union to assist in the recruitment of a Labour Relations Assistant for an initial 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to support a dedicated Labour Relations team and gain hands-on experience working with grievance tracking, arbitration coordination, and case file support in a unionized environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Support the preparation and tracking of grievances, arbitration cases, and other labour relations matters
- Maintain and organize accurate records and documentation relating to collective agreements, grievances, and related correspondence
- Coordinate and schedule grievance hearings, meetings, and arbitrations
- Research and compile information related to labour laws, collective agreements, and best practices in labour relations
- Draft correspondence, reports, and briefing materials on labour relations issues
- Assist with preparing presentations, reports, and training content for union representatives and members
- Coordinate logistics for meetings and training sessions, including travel and materials preparation
- Respond to inquiries from members and union representatives regarding grievance procedures, collective agreements, and workplace concerns
- Support internal and external communication activities related to labour relations initiatives
- Liaise with various stakeholders to facilitate union operations and initiatives
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Education: Post-secondary education in Labour Relations, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field
- Experience: 1–3 years in a labour relations, human resources, or administrative support role; experience in a unionized environment considered a strong asset
- Knowledge: Understanding of grievance procedures, labour laws, and collective agreements. Familiarity with unionized workplace structures and collective bargaining processes is advantageous
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with case management or database systems is considered an asset
- Soft Skills:
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Maintains discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information
- Collaborative, proactive, and team-oriented mindset
- Language: Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred; French is an asset
- Work Arrangement: Onsite initially with the potential for hybrid
- Location: Downtown Ottawa
- Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (flexible within normal business hours)
- Hourly Pay: $30.00–$36.00 per hour
- Duration: 3-month contract, with potential for extension
