We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research and Development Manager to lead the development and application of innovative baked goods solutions. As the R&D Manager, the incumbent will manage projects from concept to commercialization, ensuring highest quality product and food safety, while ensuring an unreasonably high level of customer service.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Team Player: As one of the leaders in the manufacturing plant, create a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages camaraderie and continuous improvement
  • Project Management: Lead applied research and technology innovation projects in the baked goods sector.
  • Sensory Evaluation: Manage baked goods sample evaluations and application testing using various equipment and processes.
  • Customer Focus: Collaborate with internal and external customers to understand their needs and develop solutions, troubleshooting challenges throughout the product lifecycle, with an unreasonable focus on providing high quality customer service
  • Recipe Development: Develop and refine new product application recipes, applying scientific principles to optimize taste and functionality.
  • Product & Raw Material Management: Maintain adequate stock of standardized products and raw materials, to expedite product development times
  • Ingredient Validation: Validate the functionality of ingredients in final products, conducting shelf-life studies to ensure product stability and food safety.
  • Documentation: Meticulously record all research findings, test results, and project details according to established protocols.
  • Laboratory Skills: Possess hands-on laboratory experience and proficiency in data management
  • Industry Expertise: Stay informed about industry trends, food safety regulations and standards, ensuring R&D activities comply with local and international regulatory requirements as well as customer needs

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree, Food Science and Technology, Chemistry or equivalent (i.e.

Biotechnology, Biochemistry)

  • Minimum 5 years in food product development, with a focus on baked goods solution development
  • Strong knowledge of food science principles, ingredients and recipe formulation
  • Proven project managements skills, demonstrated ability to structure and manage work
  • Self-directed and comfortable working in ambiguous environments
  • Innovative analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically in line with customer expectations
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a diverse team environment
  • Ability to develop exceptional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
