What You Will Be Doing
- Direct all aspects of the environmental programs for the project, including the annual environmental reporting activities for the project and corporate
- Ensure environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Project Agreement and all Environmental Reference Documents and Additional Environmental Reports, as well as ISO14001:2015
- Manage all environmental issues associated with the project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow-up program in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports, Environmental Law and any applicable Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements
- Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant governmental authorities and stakeholders in cooperation with the client representative
- Take a lead role in internal environmental design reviews including development of mitigation and compensation proposals acceptable to the client and governmental authorities
- Liaise with the client and with governmental authorities (through the client) as required and acting as the single point of contact for the project on all matters relating to environmental management
- Direct the preparation and submission to the client of all plans, reports, documents and other information required by the Project Agreement’s Environmental Obligations
- Act as lead authorizing signatory for the project before the release of any new or amended environmental plan, report or document
- Ensure effective operation of the Environmental Management System on a day-to-day basis
- Ensure that environmental issues are addressed and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports and the Project Agreement
- Ensure effective development, tracking and monitoring of environmental metrics in line with best practice standards.
- Conduct internal environmental audits
- Identify and manage environmental risk
- Verify and monitor environmental training requirements
- Manage and mentor the project environmental team
- Perform other duties as required by the project director
- Bachelor or advanced degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography or another related Discipline
- PEng.or P.Geo designation or ability to obtain one is preferred
- 10 years of work-related experience for linear infrastructure projects or similar
- Experience in successfully managing all environmental aspects of transit projects in Ontario
- Knowledge of Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario)
- Knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario environmental policies, procedures and legislation
- Experience with implementation and management of environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001
- Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and governmental authorities
- Experience with similar projects in Ontario
- Knowledge of ISO14001:2015
- Experience managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience with development of mitigation measures and monitoring plans
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience
- Strong mentoring skills
- Demonstrated leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to handle competing priorities
