On a daily basis, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary design team working to innovate and develop new capabilities for our existing vehicles and products, or to create entirely new ones. As an Automation Engineer , you’ll play a key role in designing and optimizing industrial vehicles in the aluminum sector. This role involves working on both mobile and stationary equipment while contributing to innovative projects such as IoT system development and Industry 4.0 solutions—including MecforLink , electrification of our products, and participation in autonomous vehicle projects.

Reporting to the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor, your role as Automation Engineer includes:

  • Technical leadership of design activities under your responsibility
  • Designing electrical harnesses for interconnecting equipment on vehicles
  • Preparing functional specifications for vehicle behavior
  • Programming embedded controllers for vehicle systems, operator interfaces, joysticks, AGVs, etc.
  • Testing and validating vehicle systems in real-world conditions
  • Ensuring equipment complies with standards and regulations
  • Reviewing and validating electrical drawings and schematics for production
  • Serving as a technical point of contact for clients and other departments (sales, service, projects, production, after-sales)
  • Programming and configuring the IoT system and MecforLink Industry 4.0 initiative
  • Contributing to AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) projects in collaboration with partners


Required Skills:

  • B achelor’s degree in engineering, with a specialization in electrical, computer, automated production, or equivalent
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)


Assets:

  • Interest or passion for vehicle automation, CAN networks, J1939
  • Interest in electric vehicles and/or AGVs
  • Experience in a manufacturing/OEM context
  • Interest in embedded microcontrollers (Arduino, BeagleBone, Raspberry Pi)
  • Knowledge of Linux systems and containerization
  • Experience in Python and embedded programming (C, C++, or others)
