Position Summary
The Career Services Specialist at Oxford International Career College (OICC) is dedicated to enhancing students’ career readiness and employment outcomes. This role focuses on four primary areas:
- Business Development: Establishing and nurturing partnerships with employers to facilitate student practicum placements and graduate employment opportunities.
- Student Support: Providing personalized career advising sessions, including resume writing assistance, mock interviews, and job search best practices. Assisting students in securing practicum placements and supporting graduates in finding employment.
- Data tracking: identifying and collecting data on key KPIs for the program, such as student interviews, post graduation employment, time to employment, and more.
- Career Events and Initiatives: Organizing and executing career-related events to enhance student engagement and employment readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development:
- In collaboration with our Snr Manager of Partnerships and Community Outreach, develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional employers to create practicum and employment opportunities for students and graduates.
- Collaborate with employers to understand industry needs and align college programs accordingly.
- Act as the primary liaison between OICC and industry partners, ensuring ongoing communication and partnership growth.
- Conduct individualized and group career advising sessions focusing on resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and professional etiquette.
- Assist students in securing practicum placements by matching their skills and interests with appropriate opportunities.
- Support graduates in their job search efforts, providing resources and guidance to facilitate successful employment outcomes.
- Identify key KPIs to measure students and graduates’ career success
- Measure and report on these data points regularly
- Analyse the data and evolve the Career Services offerings to better support the students’ needs
- Plan, coordinate, and execute career-related events such as job fairs, employer panels, networking sessions, and workshops.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote events and encourage student participation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of events and make recommendations for future improvements.
Qualifications And Skills
- Diploma or degree in Career Development, Human Resources, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in career services, employment counseling, recruitment, or workforce development.
- Proven ability to build and maintain employer partnerships and develop job opportunities.
- Experience in providing career advising and support to students, preferably in a private career college setting.
- Familiarity with CCA and ECE programs and their specific practicum and employment requirements is an asset.
- Strong organizational and event planning skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with client management databases.
- Canadian Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) certification is considered an asset.
