Accountabilities

Job Description:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

  • organize, and lead children in various recreational, educational, athletic, arts & crafts and other mentoring activities
  • arrange for and maintain controls over program equipment and supplies, including purchasing
  • direct volunteers and other team members as needed
  • assist in completing registration or attendance forms, incident and other reports as needed
  • connect with families and assist in promotion of program
  • encourage a safe and inclusive environment
  • liaise with other community organizations and churches
  • represent organizational values and assist in linking children and families to other help programs and community resources
  • may assist with food security initiatives and with other outreach opportunities for youth, including preparations for the summer kids to camp program
  • pick up and sort donations when required

Critical Relationship Management

Internal: MU leadership and staff, volunteers.

External: Will have to communicate with community members.

Managerial/Technical Responsibilities

Reports directly to the CFS Director.

Direct reports: None

Financial And Material Management

  • Minor material responsibilities.
  • The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds.
  • The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a playground environment.
  • May be required to move/lift up to 30 pounds and work outdoors.

Education, Experience And Qualifications

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

  • Completion of some high school course work is required.

Skills And Capabilities

  • Maintain and promote a positive image of The Salvation Army by providing a high caliber of services and dealing with others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Good team player.
  • Organized and attentive to details.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and experience with children. Effective communication and conflict resolution skills and the ability to create a positive and safe experience through both structured and unstructured programs will be essential to the role.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Employment program.

To Be Eligible, Candidates Must

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $15.65 to $16.90 with a maximum of $20.28.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
