Responsibilities
Performs all of the duties of a Quality Analyst 1 and 2 plus the following:
- Develops and implements strategies to support knowledge of the Quality Assurance team for new application testing, application enhancements, and new technologies.
- Creates and maintains a Quality Assurance Innovation Roadmap through research and analysis of future testing technologies. Recommends technologies that support the direction of the Quality Assurance team based on Company’s business and technology needs, strategic fits, industry best practices, and product capabilities.
- Analyzes and translates business information requirements to develop test strategy plans, define the scope of testing and test timeline estimates when acting as a test lead for medium to large sized projects.
- Develops communication strategies for the testing team to communicate with the project managers, delivery managers and stakeholders on small to large projects.
- Manages capacity planning and resources when acting as test lead of medium to large projects, and supports the Quality Assurance team with testing and documentation as needed to meet deadlines.
- Develops, maintains and documents standard testing guidelines, standard operating procedures, quality assurance workflows, and procedures to support team knowledge and development.
- Develops and monitors risk-management procedures, and maintains and analyzes defect logs for medium to large sized projects, to ensure compliance, and identifies and reports recurring issues to management.
- Provides work leadership to staff in the Quality Assurance Department. Acts as a functional expert and provides technical advice, coaching and training to Quality Assurance team.
- Analyzes post-mortem information to identify potential gaps in testing, and provides feedback to the quality assurance team on areas of improvement for future testing and improvements to test scripts.
- Reviews and analyzes automated test scripts and manual test plans created by QA Team or other business areas to identify potential gaps or areas of improvement and delivers constructive feedback.
- Performs other duties of a minor nature related to the above responsibilities, which do not affect the evaluation of the job.
- Travel to various operating units as required in support of company and departmental objectives.
- Two year technical Diploma in Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Business Administration (with an IT emphasis).
- Eight (8) years directly related relevant work experience; including developing test strategies, executioning tests and tracking issues.
- Three (3) years advanced experience with applications used by FortisBC, such as SharePoint, SAP, CRM, Customer Information Systems (CIS), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Mobile Workforce Management (MWFM) and Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
- Demonstrated advanced understanding of the various testing concepts, methodologies and industry-standard best practices
- Superior understanding of the STLC & review process, and test case documentation.
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency with computer systems and related programs including Microsoft Office, Access, SharePoint, and Visio.
- Demonstrated superior written and oral communications, negotiation, and presentation skills; including the ability to write comprehensive technical documentation, present analyses and recommendations for management consideration, and ability to train, coach and influence others.
- Demonstrated competency in managing testing on small to medium sized projects and knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and analytical skills, including competence in independent management of resources, and ability to prioritize in a high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated advanced interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Understanding of querying using SQL, and automated testing experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated excellent leadership competency to lead, motivate and coach quality assurance team on best practices, systems, policies, procedures, and core processes.
