Job Description
The Manager, IT Audit will contribute and advocate Extendicare’s purpose of Helping People Live Better and is responsible for managing internal and external IT audit projects and engagements, the design and effectiveness of IT Audit controls and ensuring that regulatory compliance is at required levels.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and offers a hybrid work environment.

The Manager, IT Audit will contribute and advocate Extendicare’s purpose of Helping People Live Better and is responsible for managing internal and external IT audit projects and engagements, the design and effectiveness of IT Audit controls and ensuring that regulatory compliance is at required levels.
This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and offers a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior leaders to define, implement, and maintain the IT audit control framework to support internal and external audit requirements.
- Lead and execute IT audits, including system implementations and integrations, to evaluate control design, operational effectiveness, and compliance with policies.
- Develop and deliver clear audit reports outlining findings, associated risks, and practical recommendations for enhancing IT governance and operational efficiency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and third-party audits, ensuring alignment, documentation accuracy, and timely communication.
- Provide senior management with timely insights on IT audit risks and assurance on the effectiveness of internal controls.
- Identify and assess control deficiencies, advising on remediation plans that are timely, practical, and aligned with business needs.
- Establish and maintain robust IT audit processes, including SOPs, templates, and quality standards to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure understanding and adherence to IT audit controls, and foster strong working relationships across audit, IT, and business teams.
- Stay current with IT audit standards, regulatory changes, and risk trends to ensure continuous improvement of audit practices and frameworks.
- Champion ethical practices and act with integrity in all aspects of audit execution and communication, in alignment with the organization’s Code of Conduct.
- Professional designation preferred: Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), or equivalent.
- Post-secondary degree in Information Technology or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience conducting internal and/or external IT audits.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to leverage data and risk-based methodologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ICFR/SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) audit methodologies.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory frameworks such as NIST, COBIT, GDPR, PHIPA, HIPAA, and ISO 2700x, and their implications for IT audit.
- Experience with IT Audit practices in applications such as Workday and Identity lifecycle and Governance solutions would be considered an asset.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking abilities with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing business needs.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and collaboration skills to engage stakeholders across various functions.
