Date: 3 weeks ago
City: Saint John, New Brunswick
Contract type: Full time

At Engineering by Houghton (EBH), we’re a small team of civil engineers and project managers who believe that great infrastructure starts with great people (and a solid grading plan). We're serious about positive community impact and maybe a little too excited about stormwater management. So, if you love designing resilient infrastructure and want to work with a team who takes work-life balance as seriously as soil compaction, you're in the right place.

As a Civil Engineer at EBH, you’ll report directly to the CEO (because there's no bureaucracy here), and lead a mix of municipal infrastructure, land development, and environmental projects. You’ll also help steer the future of the firm because everyone has a say in where we’re headed and the projects we take on.

Key responsibilities include:

Engineering Design

  • Existing conditions capture, planning, and design for land development, municipal infrastructure, and environmental projects ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and national standards.
  • Projects typically involve sanitary, storm, and water systems, stormwater management, street construction, site grading, active transportation infrastructure, and sediment and erosion control, but we're open to growing the scope of the firm based on your expertise and interests.

Field Work

  • Get out of the office and into the field. You’ll scope out sites, assess topography, and track down those elusive underground utilities so you can design high-quality, reliable solutions.
  • See your designs go from the page to the pavement: Oversee construction activities and meet with partners, clients and contractors to ensure designs are implemented successfully.

Project Management

  • Own your projects from kickoff to close-out using tools like MS Project, Oracle Primavera Cloud, and BQE Core to stay organized and in control of timelines, budgets, and scope.
  • Be the go-to for everyone from drafters to developers with a communication style that builds trust.

Leadership and Company Growth

  • Work closely with the CEO and team members to plan and prioritize work, allocate resources, and drive growth.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 4+ years in civil engineering or construction
  • Knowledge of provincial and national engineering design requirements
  • Autodesk Civil 3D and Storm & Sanitary Analysis (You’ve got it, or you're comfortable picking it up fast)
  • Excellent communicator and a demonstrated ability to work autonomously
  • Strong technical skills with a side of systems thinking - you can manage multiple projects considering the interconnections, impacts, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure success
  • Valid driver’s license and a vehicle (you’ll need to get to site, but we cover mileage, gas, CAA and snacks)
  • Bonus points if you’ve used topographic survey equipment or LiDAR

  • Health & Dental Plans
  • RRSP Matching
  • Paid Time Off
  • Flexible, Family-First Culture
  • Family Gym Memberships
  • Longevity Assessments
